Upcoming parts

Post by mytimac »

A bunch of new stuff is in the works. So many parts so little time.
A battery holder for the Team Losi Jrx line in 2 different versions is being tested. One is a traditional style and the other is a long version to accommodate longer batteries.

Side bulkheads for the JRX2 and JRXT are in testing.

Replacement rear shock mounts for the JRX2 and JRXT are in testing.

Front top brace for the molded Losi chassis is in testing.

Holder for the older Team Losi shocks. It also includes a wrench for the cartridge.

There is a bunch in the design stages that are replacement parts and a few that are brand new products.

Dan,

Just wondering how the printed 5-Link lower rear shock mounts are coming along? I understand that it's probably a case of 'so much to do, so little time' but an update would be great! :D

Well I never got my second test run in for those and some other parts. Right now I have to wait till I can get to an indoor off-road track. Minnesota is now a winter wasteland outside and the nearby outdoor track is snow covered.

Ahhhh! Our head office is based in Minnetonka and I've heard it's cold but maybe that's an understatement!

Thanks for the update, Dan.

The snow just mostly left earlier this week, but it left lots of mud. Can't walk in the stuff. Now it is back to 25F -4C today, so it is partially frozen mud. Rain Thursday and 4-6 inches of snow is forecast for Friday. So don't think I will get any track time this week or weekend on the new parts. It suppose to get into the upper 40's next week, so maybe I can get it out on the track mid week if I am lucky. I will go for run if it is a little muddy, just to get some track time.

I have a bunch of parts to test. It will be great to get them all some track time as soon as possible.

Got 2 packs in on the lower shock mounts and the side bulkheads Saturday. They held up so far without issue. The track is really rocky right now. After winter rocks tend to come to the surface of the track. Because the design totally encloses the lower portion it took some rock strikes on the bottom. But it seemed to hold up just fine. I actually had to cut short the test session because I came down hard on a jump and broke one of the rear suspension links in half. Thought for sure the shock part must have broke.

Not sure how the suspension link just snapped in half in the middle. Would have thought breaking near the hinge pins would be more likely.

I even handed the controls off to the girlfriend who had never driven on the track before. She cracked the front bulkhead when she slammed into a pipe hard. It still works but it now has a nice crack from the suspension arm hinge pin to the front most screw. It is ok, I thought a novice driver would really put the test on the shock parts.

I would really like to get it tested with other drivers on the track who might run into the truck while racing. But our race season doesn't start until around end of May. Oh that brings up another thing to share. I am testing the parts in a JRXT setup. Figure those big tires sticking way out will put the best stress test on these parts.

We have nothing but rain and chances of snow until Saturday in the forecast. The rain just won't stop coming. Maybe if it is warm and sunny enough on Saturday the track will dry out and can get out there Sunday. Want to get at least 6 more battery packs on it.

I hope the weather breaks soon for you and I also hope the remaining testing goes well. I will be very interested in some of these parts. We have rain forecast for this entire week as well. :(

Well while it is raining I am making new parts.

Here is the first pictures of some new stuff coming soon.
Tamiya Frog and Brat gear covers.
I can do all one color or any combination of my normal colors.

Because of color options I think these will be made to order.

Trying to come up with a Blackfoot one but the word Blackfoot will never fit. :)
Thinking foot print design in black, or initials BF.

There is someone on eBay who sells aluminum ones with the name of the model on them like that. I think it's a good idea. You can also do Lunch Box or Midnight Pumpkin ones as well. Another idea is to make ones that just say Tamiya on them for a more universal appeal.

I have gotten a lot more track time on the shock ends and side bulkheads now. Been out everyday since Saturday.
On Sunday I had one shock end fail. After a crash on a jump the truck landed more on its top side and forced the shock shaft to pull out of shock end. I had anticipated this happening. I had been playing around with the shock shaft hole size. I was trying to make it easier to screw them together by make the hole a little bigger. Looks like it was too large. So I put a smaller one on after that. The other side still has the larger hole.

I have had more issues with other parts taking test time away. Had another suspension link break. A ball stud came out on the sector arm. Finally finished off the front bulkhead, broke the cracked side clean off. Melted one diff together. I do mean melted together. The 2 halves will no longer come apart.

Probably doesn't help I am running this on a Novak Ballistic 8.5. I am really testing these parts.
Did mention I am not running a slipper.

I am going to make a test revision to the shock end to angle opening part for better deflection of rocks and stones. I have a bunch of dings in them from hitting rocks on the track. I have some room to make the opening smaller in spots. The problem with doing that it is it will make the part left or right specific. Not sure I want to do that. I will share the revision design and then take feedback. Could do both designs I suppose.

stay tuned
