NIX91 Racer discussion thread.

Post by Mark Westerfield »

A thread for those that are actually racing with their cars. Lets discuss setups and hear about the tracks your racing them on. Car Photos, track photos, and race results encouraged.

Track: Wolcott Hobbies & Raceway, 130 Scott Road, Waterbury, CT.

This track hosted the 2014 Vintage Offroad Nationals, and I have been told it will host the race again in 2015. Its a smooth, medium bite, Indoor track. Pro-line M4 compound tires are a must. Any bar type tire works fine really, right now Electrons work great.

Nix91 setup

Front:
Losi 35 wt oil
Custom piston, 3 x 1.15mm holes
5 .030 limiters
Kyosho W5181-55 springs
Upper mount #3
Camber link, New inside 3rd hole on camber link, -1.5 degree
Modded caster block back 1mm
3 Bump steer washers
24mm ride height
25 degree front bulkhead
Proline Electrons M4, Pro-line closed cell insert

Rear:
Losi 30 wt oil
Custom piston, 2 x 1.45mm holes
2 .030 limiters
Kyosho W5183-60 springs
Upper mount #1, lower mount #3
Camber link 1-A, -1.5 degree
3 degrees toe-in per side, 1 degree antisquat
24mm ride height
Proline Electrons M4, AKA closed cell insert

Lrp X20 9.5t motor, std timing
24/81 gearing
Lrp SXX ESC
SMC shorty 4600, forward
Airtronics 94774 servo

It's very smooth and predictable to drive. I'll probably move the caster block back another mm for a total of 2mm, and I want to run 0 degrees antisquat for slightly more corner exit on power steering. Otherwise should run well at the 2015 VONATS race.

I would think the Nix62525 racing steering assembly with the steering servo rotated 90 degrees would be a symetrical setup for the front. I like the battery forward design too.

BTW, I like the new geometry of the inside camber link!

The nix91 steering racks are longer and mounted up higher. It would also require a low profile servo.

Mark if I can find the time, I am going to add my race version but it does have some geometry differences from the standard NIX91. Look forward to seeing others setups.

I have yet to start building mine, should be able to in the next week. I do plan on racing mine as well. I am curious what springs your running Jake, I plan on using AE big bore springs when I build mine.

Mark, since I have had my head in the sand (only used AE pistons), where do you get blanks to drill?

For the three hole piston, I filled the holes with jb weld, and drilled new holes offset from the old holes. The two hole piston, the drill bit I used is bigger than the existing holes, so I just drilled them out. I have since switched to 2, 1.40 mm holes in the rear pistons.

Weight is 1428.8 grams. it would need 2.5 ounces of lead weight to be ROAR legal.

Thanks, I thought it may be a little skinny! Nice that you can add weight where you want though!
