RC10 B2.5 Baja Bug Project

Here's a couple spy shots of my latest project.
It's a lightly used B2 that collected dust on a shelf for over a decade.
I was just going to freshen it up and run it again, but things got a little out of hand...
Way more $$$ than I originally planned to invest.
It's now a B2-B3-T3 hybrid of sorts.
It's inspired by the California style pre-runner Baja bugs & years of Hot VW's Magazine addiction. I like the extended wheelbase of the more serious bajas.
I haven't found an affordable Sand Scorcher in decent shape yet, (after years of searching) so this is the next best thing.
I hope to post updates & specs soon.

Looks great, what body is that?

Thanks.
I'm pretty sure it's an imported (from England) K**tec body.
This one may have slipped under Volkswagen's iron licensing fist.*
*(Apparently they're not into ANY tributes to their most famous icon)
I don't want to get the actual source in trouble just in case they're in Proline's position (remember that excellent Baja body that was out last year for only a couple weeks?)
Hint: Check out RC crawler websites....
I see that Parma must have patched things up with VW, they've re-released the Sand Scorcher replacement.

I have the Parma one waiting to be built this summer. I was going to use a Frog, but I have a RC10 coming with a cut chassis I might use it? will see when it gets here. I like you body better than the Parma the hood is more correct and looks better. but how thick is it? the one thing I like about the Parma one is its tough.

nice... what wheels are those.

The wheels are RPM Revolver rock crawler wheels.
# 82223 fronts & #82233 rears.
They come in a wide offset and a narrow offset.
Standard 2.2 buggy tires fit perfect on the rears.
The fronts come the same rim width as the rears, I'm going to narrow the front rim's inner bead about 1/4" for a perfect look for the Proline (buggy) Dirt Hawgs. The offsets are perfect for the B2.
They include hex adapters that fit the rear CVD axles perfectly.
The fronts required a little custom work.*
*Special thanks to Kirk C. for custom machined DS front axles & Losi carriers.
You can also check out RC10.com's instruction on swapping over the DS front axles for standard touring car hex type carriers.

Sorry,
I missed the question on the body earlier.
It's right on par with the Parma's lexan if not a hair thicker.
To get a more realistic look, it's had a lot of excess trimmed off the fenders, front end and rear engine area.
I've had the Parma body on my (shelf queen status) Baja'd Turbo Ultima since the mid 90's & it seemed to hold up well.
(It's another project I'm working on at the same time)
That project Has a custom Monster Beetle body/Proline (front clip) combo that will be posted soon. I've set aside the Parma body it had on it for now.
I like the wide eye'd front look. It's not quite as detailed as the Parma overall, but I've got some repro'd Tamya '67 Beetle decal details waiting to address any detail issues on this one....

great build can't wait to see it painted. I love VW's. How come you didn't go with a paddle tire combo?

I have the same tires as well. Watch the grip on asphalt, you'll flip the car for sure!
Dig the body, reminds me of my 1:1
Baja i owned for a while.

Nice 1/1 scale toy pejota!
I haven't ruled out paddle tires, they may be substituted on future trips to the beach or dunes this summer. I don't plan on running this too much on pavement with the Dirt Hawgs, they are way soft...it would almost guarantee rash on the new rims...or the roof. I've got firmer foam inserts in the front to help prevent the problem though.
I'd like this to be a scale version of future plans for the real thing, so I don't plan on abusing it.....too much.
I've got Chip Foose intentions on a 1/10 scale budget.....

That is one cool project! I love the old beetle bodies. Why don't I have any?
