i was going to get a flat sheet of steel, make a 30degree bend in it with a break, apply some release mold, lay down a sheet of carbon fiber weave and apply some resin, then reverse it and do the same thing on top

cheap enough here..
http://cgi.ebay.com/Carbon-Fiber-Fabric-5HS-Weave-16-W-11-oz-8-yd_W0QQitemZ390089337742QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad322eb8e

only problem is going to be getting air bubbles out, but i might try a vacuum pump system to do it, it will either come out beautifully or a total mess lol. we'll see

gear cover is pretty tough to find. it's the only piece I am missing from my original kit, oddly enough. Nothing directly fits, but I think I had a b2 cover placed on the motor plate, and with a couple of holes redrilled, I think it works. I'll double check.

Those fronts will work

The rear needs to be for a bandit like these http://www.rchobbyexplosion.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=TRA2750R

I might have a gear cover, let me look through some boxes when I get home.

the trx 1 gear cover was nylon, so you might have to make some mods/tweak the mold to make a lexan one, if that is the way you were planning.

I'm also looking for one, so if you happen to find more than one, please let me know!

yeah, i figured if you are capable of molding lexan, you would know how to do it, just letting you know what the original looked like.....

oh, also, if you are planning to make these out of lexan, any of the newer traxxas gear covers look the same, the only difference between them all is the mounting holes, so the cover, with a molded flat flange could be used for pretty much all of the old style metal motor plates, just the trimming determines which one it fits.

for example, I found that the rustler/stampede/etc gear cover fits the blue eagle trans, but the mounting ear needs to have a spacer behind it. The hole pattern is the same, but the new trucks have a protruding mounting block, so the ear doesn't sit flush with the edge of the cover, I had to install a screw and nut arrangement, and the cover gets secured with a nut on the outside. I hope you can follow that description. This cover would fit the trx1, but the top ear is in a different place. If it was made of lexan, and had a long flat flange, like would occur from the molding process, it would fit both trans'.

If that isn't clear, I can snap a pic.

here are some pic with a rustler/stampede gear cover: dark blue is a blue eagle, pale blue is a trx1. cover fits on eagle with the aforementioned 'stud and nut' arrangement. TRX1 mounting tabs do not line up.

i think they will. The newer arms are different than the old arms, but i think they still clear OK. The traxxas knuckle conversion is(was) a hot ticket for RC10DS users to use off the shelf touring car wheels, though they need some small modifications. I would think they would drop onto a traxxas car, given how similar they kept things as they developed new models.
