Stealth transmissions questions

i have been refurbishing my early 6 gear trans rc10 and was considering improving the trans to a stealth.. mostly for parts replacement.. i was wondering if there is a difference between the buggy and truck transmissions and i have been reading about the 2.25 and the 2.6 versions.. which is better? and are the parts readily available at a hobby shop. 6 gear trans is going for $25 to $50 and becoming less of an option to run when parts fail on this set up.

if you have a gold pan that has no holes drilled, you will need to drill holes. The 2.25 trans is the 'right' trans for the car, but is also starting to have parts discontinued and unavailable, particularly, the outdrives.

you could retrofit a b4 style trans in the car but it would require a different set of holes, and another large hole for the trans to drop through, OR, a spacer plate under the trans.

there are quite a few threads regarding retrofit of various stealth transmissions, 2.25, 2.4, and 2.6. see this thread:

Pretty much, the SC10 and later t/b4's are metric outdrive bearings though

Just to add: SC104x4 is metric bearings on the top shaft and idler too.

just to clarify because i am trying to keep up

new stealth
b 2-3-4 and t 2-3-4 transmissions are the same, in which i would need to make either a hole in chassis or add a spacer for the bottom
parts are not discontinued (yet) bearing in idler

1st gen stealth

the "correct" stealth comes from an rc10 or 10t
parts are being discontinued, bearing in the case for the idler

2.25 - rc10, 10t, ds (same trans)

2.40 - b2, b3, t3 (same trans)

2.60 - t2, gt, b4, t4, sc10 (differences in trans)

tommykart, yes that is close. B2/B3/T3 are the same trans, B4/T4 are the same.

I have an "almost on topic question",

What about the SC10 vs B4 vs B4.2 trans. When I looked up my son's RC10B4.2 trans in his manual, it lists ASC9826. If I pull that up on Tower the description for that part is "This is the Diff Gear Transmission Case for use on the Associated SC10." Yet if I look up a B4 trans on Tower it shows "Associated Transmission Case RC10B4" as ASC9574.

Did they switch the B4,2 to the SC10 trans? Or I am just confused? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

there is some changeover with the latest versions, to metric bearings and parts, and such. I don't know much more than that.
