Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special (Conversion) Build :)
Ok i was not going to start a new build thread but i have run into some questions i can not answer lol
This is my Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special i think, From looking at manuals i think this is what i have, this leadt to the first question lol
#1 Is this a Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special
I got a new LWB upper deck and it does not match the chassis (picture do not show the difference very well), This would not be a problem but the OCD is kicking my butt at the moment. The chassis material looks more like the composite craft parts (Dull black / dark grey), The new upper deck i have looks like a glossy fiberglass (OTW-6). The upper deck that came with the car is in the foreground all cut up lol.
#2 What Upper deck do i need and where can i get one lol?
The car has Yokomo wheel adapters and One-Way bearings adapters in the front, Im still looking for a set of Yoke wheels, Id rather have new or very nice pink wheels but if i cant find any i guess i will have to find a set of white.
#3 The front wheels in the pick are very narrow, I have a new set of Yoke tires already that fit the wheels in the pic, Anybody have part numbers for the wheels (Or some wheels they will part with )
All help and comment are appreciated. Thanks for looking

Re: Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special Build
Ok here is what i found, The Chassis i have is CF, It looks like the composite craft material from back in the day, The top deck in the front of the pic is made from the same material as the chassis but has been cut up.
I think this is a Turbo Optima Mid Special, the body that came with this car is not the aero type, I will have to look at it a bit better when i get home, It looks original. This could also be a conversion car, I see they made kits to convert the Optima Mid to the Turbo Optima Mid Special, I have also read that some of those kits included a FRP upperdeck (I guess they used up what they had lol)
From Wiki lol

From Wiki lol
# Optima Mid (all of the Optima models below are belt drive models. The location of the motor was changed from the rear overhang to an RMR layout. The frame was made of duralumin and fibre-reinforced plastic)
# Turbo Optima Mid (the upper echelon of the Optima Mid series. Sold with several optional parts)
# Turbo Optima Mid SE
# Turbo Optima Mid Special (the wheelbase of the Optima Mid was extended, and was sold with a carbon fiber frame. Only a maximum of two were shipped per store, as it was a limited model)
# Optima Mid Custom (a low priced version of the Turbo Optima Mid special. The frame is made of duralmin)
# Optima Mid Custom Special (similar to the Turbo Optima Mid special, with the LWB duralumin frame (some were confirmed to have been produced with the carbon fiber frame), but the body was changed to a "bullet type" canopy body)

Re: Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special ? Build
here is the turbo special, they are very rare with only a limited supply sent to each hobby shop back in the day. included was 2 set's of wheels in the box and a body which had no bubble on it for the speed control(an esc was meant to be used) chassis was proper carbon fibre not graphite! was also a conversion kit

Re: Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special ? Build
Yes it is and the top deck aswell the cf chassis may have only come with the complete kit not the conversion. The top deck that is on your chassis looks to be from a custom mid special I believe the chassis and upper deck were fiber glass so yours was most likely a conversion kitnvxwax wrote:That looks like a graphite chassis like the one i have,murphy3428 wrote:Here is what comes in the conversion kit

Re: Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special ? Build
I wonder if they ever sold the graphite upper deck separate? Did your have a parts number?
If i can find one i will get some material like the old composite craft and get one made to match the chassis.
Thanks murphy3428
