Brad Reelfs RC10 Replica /'93 FL Winterchamps Winner

Post by scr8p »

This is another replica i've been thinking about tackling. I only have a couple images of it, so without some better pics surfacing, i don't know how accurate it will be. A lot can be told just from the ones I have, and the rcca race stats will help with the esc, motor, etc.

I'm not exactly sure how soon I will be getting on this, since I have to send out a chassis set for purple ano yet. Just wanted to get the thread started in case someone may have other images.

I'm ok with that. It'll mean that white wide track arms will be available.

What ESC is that? All I can tell is that it's a Novak. Where are these race stats?

Its a novak hpc.

The stats are in the race coverage in rcca. It runs down the top ten, where they qualified, what car they used, etc.

I have that ESC, sent you a PM.
In that top picture, the nose plate looks gold. Did he change it, or is it just the bad picture?

it's probably just the picture quality. i'll be doing it purple just like the body off shot.

i'm not holding out much hope that more will come along. i may have some luck on one of the old gene husting videos, they have helped me with other builds of mine. but i think the newest one i have is like 1991.

for the most part it looks like a straight forward build, though i'm sure it won't be completely accurate. the body of shot and race stats tell a lot:

purple ano, front shock tower looks like a factory tower dyed black, rcps turnbuckles and body, molded neon yoke wing, novak hpc esc, what looks to ba a novak ner-3fm receiver, 1700 scrc batteries, reedy mr. s motor, and the tires are losi ht rib fronts and proline 8083 rears. it also state he used an airtronics radio, so i will just assume that he used an airtronics servo too.

i picked this up off of ebay last night to use for the build. looks pretty clean and untouched, other than the battery box being moved forward (which i would've done myself anyway). hopefully it's nice in person too...... fingers crossed.

Neat. I used to race against Brad and his brother Brett a lot at Oak Mountain Raceway in Birmingham Al. Weekly club races. I think one of them was in with J Concepts at one time. That might be a lead for ya.

Looks like a great project- and it is one of your builds that doesn't need a 410-m1c speedo
(Betcha need a NER3FM reciever though)

Any idea on tires used?

Found you a non-scooped Turbo Mirage BTW

i listed the main items a couple posts up:

purple ano, front shock tower looks like a factory tower dyed black, rcps turnbuckles and body, molded neon yoke wing, novak hpc esc, what looks to ba a novak ner-3fm receiver, 1700 scrc batteries, reedy mr. s motor, and the tires are losi ht rib fronts and proline 8083 rears. it also state he used an airtronics radio, so i will just assume that he used an airtronics servo too.

i have to look, but i think i have an hpc. if not, 85edinger says he has one. i definitely don't have an ner-3fm. i still need to find someone willing to trade their nip mr. s for my nip mr. h.

one thing i'm wondering about is the rear wheels. from the side shot, they are definitely 2.15-2.2 range. now i know proline had a larger rear wheel (2577 or something like that) back in '92 because i used them on my team car back in the day (still on the car actually). i'm not sure when the 6205 AE wheel came out so i'm wondering which ones they may be. i'm leaning towards the proline.

a non-scooped turbo mirage? sweet. find another cuz i think i need one for this car too.

I have NIP Pro-83's for you as well then- I am pretty sure that the 2.1's were available after 1992 from AE as well, all the sets that I have are the flag packaging style, but I remember something about AE releasing them @ the 1992 Cactus since we were all racing with 2.1's after 1991 anyway- even though we all got 2.0 rear rims with new kits (except the 6037) through 1996 minus the "B2-B3"-
