The new towers look great! Can't wait to see them installed! I did notice that on my Jrx2 tower set, the holes have been drilled a bit oversize- this would make it easier to go 3mm hardware if you ever wanted to... 8)

I just got a set of those Jrx2 towers yesterday- SO nice! The carbon weave is really fine, never seen anything like it. The towers are easily double the thickness of the stock so should be way stiffer.

Wonder if that guy will ever make chassis plates    !
Well, I guess there's only one way to find out............, and a quick email should do the trick!

Hey guys! Thanks for the kind words on the shock towers!

I did drill the holes a little larger (.125 versus .110) for that exact reason. If the holes were stripped in a bulkhead, they could be replaced with 3mm easily, not to mention the newer ball ends!

I've had a lot of interest about cutting chassis plates. I do have a price on the carbon with the molded kick-up in it (I'd do the 30 degree only, not the 20 the original JRX2 had...) Stay tuned...

Also, I'm going to try to put up a thread in the business section. Gotta chat with the proper people...

Well, there you have it! It looks like a CF JRX-2 chassis is getting closer to becoming a reality.... 8)

I got the new shock towers installed after drilling the wing mount holes in the rear tower.

While changing out the front tower, I noticed stress cracks around several holes in the old front bulkhead. The cracks at the tower holes were the worst.

Image

I pulled a new in package, late style bulkhead out of the stash to replace the old cracked one. The late style bulkheads have through holes for the shock tower to allow the use of locknuts on the end of the screws.

As I was installing the 4-40 screws to mount the shock tower, I could feel something crack. It turned out that every screw hole cracked as I mounted the bulkhead to the chassis. Strange for a "new" part, I guess it lost some elasticity over time. The cracks are not all the way through, so I will run it as-is and see what happens.
I have a nip white bulkhead I could use, but want to save it for an LXT build .

I solved my wheel nut issue by changing out the Proline B4 wheels for AE B4 wheels that do not have a recess area around the nut.

The motor arrived so I installed it with a 31t TLR lightweight pinion. It's a Dynamite Tazer 3000KV all-in-one. There's little room between the webs of the chassis and I did not want to mount an esc vertically on the tower, so I'll give the Tazer a try. Apparently, both the Dynamite and Orion are made by the same manufacturer. I have the Orion 3000KV in a Javelin and I've been happy with it.

Threw some Losi tires on to see how she will sit when complete. Just need to get the body sorted and she'll be ready for some laps.

OMG is that a nice build! I would be proud to show up to the track even today with that car. Just looks like it will handle great!! Your pictures are fantastic as well! Great build and write-up.

Bummer about the brand new bulkhead stress cracking- even with 4-40's. I would washer/nut the front side of em too. Was that Sabula guy making those bulkheads?

Now whats the body plan?

Yes, great build..........and a neat job with the XXX wing mounts! 8)

Dan @ www.OLDRC.com had the XX front bulkhead re-made but not the JRX-2, Pro, SE, Jr. bulkhead.

Was thinking about TBG repo Pro SE body. But, I spied an old XX-CR body in the corner and dropped it on for a quick peek.

Looks pretty good. I'd have to chop up the back to clear the wing mounts and would probably lose that lovely rear duckbill spoiler in the process. TBG does a XX-CR also, so I may just get both bodies. I also have a NIP Jammin' Pro SE body, but I don't have the heart to chop it up for this project.

Waiting on the body to arrive from TBG, so I glued the tires while I wait.

Losi A-7202 wide body 2 ribs on the front and A-7372 taper pins on the rear.

Got the XX-CR body trimmed today. I managed to "save" the rear duckbil,l which is my favorite part of the body and gives it an old school look.

The fit is not perfect, as the XX body is lower profile than the Pro chassis. The body needs to be about 1/4" deeper on the sides in order for the bottom edge to be flush with the bottom of the chassis.

Finally made time to apply some paint. Just a basic rattle-can job that was inspired by the box art.

And mounted on the chassis with some pieces of flair...
