Is there a way just to add a thumbs up to the "smilies"?

Lowgear wrote: Mon Feb 05, 2018 6:48 pm My first thought was there's no way anything like those two features would be available for the forum software here. I went and looked and surprisingly enough there is! Well almost... There is an @mention mod that I can install, and I found a few "like" mods but they're all still in development.
Heck yea, let's give it a try!

Yes, if I find one I like. Emojis also work here as I just tried them.

Well there's a dark side to it. Modifications in general aren't all that compatible with phpBB, and are unsupported. They're basically a use at your own risk situation. Also, when the board software needs an update, all these installed mods need to be disabled. Then you have to make sure each one is compatible with the new board version. If not, the incompatible mods will need to be uninstalled. Regular commercial forum software has none of these problems. Like mentioned before, I'd like to convert the board to that type of software but from experience I know it will be a major can of worms. So we may just have to live with what we have. After two months of work, I finally have everything running flawlessly so it can be looked at as an if it ain't broke, don't fix it scenario.

You can now upload ZIP files to the Scans Archive section. This means you can now upload just about any format you have those old documents in, like PDFs of manuals for example. Just as long as it's under 4MB. :)

If we were to expand the board a bit, what new forums/sections do you feel are needed or that would be utilized?

Some examples:

Tether cars
Slot cars
Planes
Boats
etc...

Anything that has to deal with modeling in general before the year 2000. Although, having a catchall for newer stuff might be an idea as well.

Ooh, that's a fantastic question! I think many members here have prior experience with slot cars. Although admittedly I left it behind before being introduced to RC in the '70's and I don't know anything about the current state of the hobby, I think perhaps including slot cars might spark some new interest in the site. It's vintage and incorporates many of the same technologies as electric RC and remember that Associated got its start with slot cars.
Good topic for discussion.

I just Googled "slot cars". Check this out. This is surreal!
Are these guys just pinning the throttle or are they actually "driving"?
How can you drive a car that's moving so fast that you can't see it?
I certainly had nothing like this back in the '60's.
