I had a long weekend, so I was able to do lots of RC stuff. First up was the Benny Hill motor swapping extravaganza. My Cougar had a 7.5 LRP and my Top Cat had a Trinity Outlaw 10.5. Both were undriveable unless EPA was set low, very low. So I pulled the 7.5 for my new LD3, swapped the 10.5 into the Cougar, and bought a HW 13.5 for the Top Cat. Now all are appropriately powered.
Next, I spent a fair bit of time checking things over, tightening screws, making adjustments, etc. All my cars are runners, so I get behind on maintenance. I finally got around to trimming the bottom of the rear hubs on my Cougars and Top Cats.
I finished building my new LD3. I painted it with my usual artistic flair.

I drove it for a minute or so. This thing has MEGA steering. No wonder those EOS "1/10 offroad" races look like 12th scale pan cars zooming around. Not my cup of tea, so I immediately went back to driving vintage stuff.

Yeah, that is a holdover from my RC plane days.

We didn't have power at the flying site, so I had to bring a whole day worth of batteries. Charging 5 at a time worked well

Luckily, most of the plane batteries charged at 2.2 amps or less. I run all 5 off a single 250 watt PC power supply.

Oh really? I was trying to do that setup with a new 500W PC power supply but too much fancy modern circuitry kept fighting me. What does your setup look like?

I will have to take a look when I get home. I built that circa 2009 and memory is pretty fuzzy. I was 50/50 on whether it would even work, so I cobbled it together crudely. Then when it worked, I never touched it again.

So it in't impressive by any means.
I do recall that I tied all of the yellow wires together as those are the 12 volt feeds. I tied all of the blacks for the negative. Then there was some business with tying the "always on" +5v (orange?) to the "sense" wire (purple?) to trick the power supply into think I had powered up the PC. That +5 is the only supply that runs when the wall cord is attached but the PC is powered off. The rest of the power supply is off until the PC's power switch is pushed. Then the motherboard tells the power supply (via the sense wire) that it is time to power up everything. So connecting the "always on" to the "sense" is crucial.

On the one I mentioned earlier, the "always on" +5 volt line is red. I connected it to gray. If I wanted a power switch, I would have put it across these 2. For mine, I just soldered them together.
I have another power supply here, so I checked to see how it compares. On this one, the always on +5 volt line is green. Connecting it to gray caused the supply to power up. All yellow and both brown wires measure 12 volts.

It does the voltage fluctuating that I mentioned here:

Staffed a little RC fun time 2 minutes a ticket grass oval "racing" booth for, well, 5 hours now. Still have 2-3 more hours left. Arrma Granites, Sentons, Vorteks, and some of their GROM scale stuff. All running on 50% of max.

I have been battle hardening my Cougars.

The captive ball cups cost me a bit of steering lock, so I will have to find a different solution for the inboard end of the steering links.
I bought the Schumacher carbon front towers before learning that Jeff made a better one. The newer build has Jeff's tower, but for the older one, I decided to just double them up. The groove on the front plate is not wide enough for 2, so I had to remove the bottom edge of 1.
