Question,
when you design parts on shapeways and they go up for sale. Do you as a designer of that part get anything from it in your design store? or does 100% of the sale go to shapeways. its as just offering a free service or something?

It's basically up to the designer. There's the price that Shapeways charges you as the designer, then in your store you have the option to add a markup on top of that. Its's much like being a real company in that way, there's the cost of goods (COG's), or what it costs you to make it (in this case Shapeways is your "factory" and distribution system), then there's the actual sales price (ASP) that the customer pays. The difference is your profit. Shapeways also skims a few percent off the ASP, which I believe covers them on the PayPal fees, since PayPal's fees to Shapeways is based on the ASP.
For me, I'm not expecting to get rich off this, but I'm having fun with it, hopefully helping some people enjoy the hobby more, and making a couple bux here and there. What's not to love about that?! I really like Shapeways business model. Now if they could just speed up the lead time on ordered parts! Hopefully they's smart and invest heavily in their infrastructure and can speed things up a bit. Time will tell

No thats all cool how they are doing it. I understand not a get rich thing. But a few bucks to help pay for parts and money you spend to develop is not a bad thing. Kind of cool how its all set up. (now they need to invest in a us location for everything)

Our parts in the US are produced in their New York facility.

You'd think they were overseas with the wait times lol! It's mainly just me being impatient tho

They're quoting about 2 weeks right now, and in my recent experience that seems to be fairly accurate. Two weeks seems like for ever though when you're waiting

My last order only took 2 weeks in production plus the 3 days or so delivery. I've never seen it that fast. It has always been 3-4 week production times for me in the past.
In regards to profits, Shapeways doesn't pay you until you have at least $30 in profit from sales. If your total is less than that at the end of the month, they just hold it until the next month and add it to those sales until you hit $30 or however many months is necessary. I charge so little in the way of profit since it's more just for the fun of it that on average it takes me 8-9 sales (maybe more depending on what it is) to hit that $30 profit mark. Remember that when you see prices on Shapeways and think they are expensive.
