Very cool. Are you building it for drag racing? I used to run in a local SCCA club. Lots of fun. My wife used to have a '97 Jetta glx vr6. Love that engine. We never had any problems with the car at all. Still be driving it if my wife hadn't of gotten nailed from some jerk in a truck.

No drag here, just some solo events and some lapping days out on Mosport. Yeah the VR6 uncorked is one sexy sounding motor !!

As already stated, the MK1's need love. Buy a Bently manual if you purchase the car. The parts for MK1's are fairly reasonable(other than fuel pumps). I've been restoring Aircooled VW's since before I could drive and was a service advisor for aVW shop. I've seen it all. Good luck on the purchase.

OH YEAH, the floorboards are TOAST!!! The Top is not Holy, but does seem a bit stiff. The Body IS perfectly straight, with only a small bit of rust under one tail light. Seats are still good. It was getting dark when I was looking, and hadnt checked this thread yet, so didnt check the fuseblocks. We plan to get up in the air at the Shop to look it over a little better.

And yes, yes I AM a Hot Blonde (when my hair grows out, lol) , and believe I could "butch up" the car enough for me to drive, at least until my Girls are old enough to drive (2 years ).

I would REALLY like the car, but if the floorpans are as bad as I think they are, even I know it aint worth $600....is it?? hehe I dont believe the floorpans would be that hard to replace, even if I have to make some...correct me if Im wrong. Checking the Fuseblock is a good bit of info, is there anything else I could check on? Electrical problems (fuseblock) scare me, but wouldnt mind much else (even the Top), IF the price is right, but I think hes gonna try to stick to his $600 price. At present, even if it was already running properly, I think it should be under $400.

Keep the info coming. I'll report whatever else I find out.

Stick with your gut on this one. Know what your ultimate price is and don't budge beyond it. he thinks it's worth 6, you think it's worth 4, there may be a compromise to be had, maybe not.

I'll stick with my gut, you pay me $600 to haul it off and I just might do it for ya! LOL

Cool car derby i had one of those when i lived in the uk now i have a karmman ghia and a 76 westy camper but ive had in the past allmost every vw they did my fav was my 2004 tdi van in siver the fastest van i ever had

I never got to race mosport. Would have loved to try that track. It looks so nice when I watch the races on tv.

WOW. I've never seen one of those before. That's cool, I'd like one of those. I would still love to have an early AWD scirocco from europe. That could be a lot of fun.

My neighbor has a couple VWs he'll give ya.

I forgot to mention that it has a Black, with Silver type, Badge that says "Karmman" (sp?). Thats not an "extra hard to find" model is it? And since looking at it that night, I havent mentioned it to him, BUT, HE hasnt mentioned it to ME, either. May end up just letting it slide.

It's a Kharman model. Think old kharman ghia. It has a few extra options, but not that hard to find on a cabby. It doesn't add a whole lot extra to the value on these.
