It's definitely true that a car is only as good as its driver.I race at york buggy club where they have a vintage championship and some of those cars go faster then modern cars with the latest batterys and motors. The vintage cars all use 20turn sealed can motors and they don't use the best tyre for the track either.

Honestly, having read this article during my time at RC Driver, i really enjoyed it and loved the idea. You have to look at the article objectively to really understand it. Its not an article about car A vs. car B, more so one about how far things have come in 20 years. Served more the purpose of further showcasing the then new B4 as and advancment in RC10 history by tying it back to its roots in the orig 10. I would've liked to have seen more detail shots... mechanical esc vs modern electronics, difference in chassis', etc to really drive home HOW different things were back then. The head to head is fun IMO but by no means an honest shootout between the two... but then again it was never meant to be. The only TRUELY heartbreaking aspect of the rc10 in the article to me is the use of modern tires and wheels vx the orig 3 piece and holiday buggy tires. That was a HUMUNGOUS step in the advancement of r/c offroad racing and caused quite a stir back in the 90's and I feel would've been a landmark difference between these two in the article.

a true shootout would be giving masami and tebo a gold tub and running them against a fleet of b4's, then seeing who wins..

Of course the stealth transmission makes the RC10 something like the RC10 1.2 if you like. So as a 20 year comparision it's okay I guess. Since I drive my RC10s with current tires, wheels, power etc. I also would have preferred AT LEAST the stealth tranny. then you have the narrow front worlds, plus the narrow rear rpm conversion maybe even all of that on graphite chassis......

I wonder how close weight wise a fully modified RC10 could come to a modified B4....

Still a nice article. I can't believe that the B4 is already 5+ years old...

i ran my rc10 once at washtenaw r/c in ann arbor. it is basically a barn that is used for r/c all winter long. i'd like to run b4 wheels and run it more often, was prob the most fun to race.
i have run a rc10t several times tho :)
