Guys, as soon as I saw the stealth gear being 45T I thought I was up on to something here (sorry if english is incorrect, I am no native speaker)...

yep, i've been thinking about this a little......the center hole only needs a slight ream, 5/16" vs 8mm is only a couple of thousandths of an inch.

width, no big deal, just sand it down.

even the ball diameter is probably no big deal, if you need to run 3mm balls, just run a 3mm ream through each hole....there is no real NEED to have a capturing feature molded in, like it normally is.....just have to be careful when building it.

and from the pictures, the diff ring circle looks close enough to not be an issue at all....

your english is much better than some that live in this country!

they both use 3/32 balls... no problems here

Thanks for the compliments about my english - I lived in Texas a couple of years last millenium, and as a mark of respect to the lone star's state citizens (y'all ), I try as hard as I can

Update - received some stealth gears tonite... and the good news is, they are VERY similar to traxxas'... the TRX1's is slightly thicker by about 1mm (1/25th of a inch) which should be no problem at all. 5x8 bearings even fit without pushing too hard on them... not much harder than in the stock part. Sounds like Traxxas really,really copied the stealth structure back in the days!

Likewise, modern traxxas 30t idler gears can be used just by fitting 5x11x4 bearings in them it seems... but I guess everyone knew that one already

sounds like the trx-1 will be beating up the track soon - woo-hoo!!!

OOOh, I whish I had read this before shopping at 3 different stores to get all the new internals for my TCP.
Quick question: during my seqearch I came across gearcases too: one package for the trx-1 and one for the trx-3 (and tcp). Does anyone know how they are different?

More important: does anybody know if it is possible to put the bandits new slipper design on these cars? and which parts should I get?

If I'm not mistaken, the only difference was that the TRX3 case was a little more upright. I think that internals were identical.

I too am curious as to whether the bandit/rustler top shaft will work.

the bandit top shaft is part number 3793. It's a couple bucks in tower, you can probably pick it up at a local hobby shop that sells traxxas stuff. the shaft is 5mm, so I'm betting that it will fit no problem, but you will have to use the trx1 or trx3 upper gear, since they use a 21t gear, and subsequent vehicles use a 22t.

I'd buy that and see if it fits. if so, then buy the rest of the stuff. you would only be out a couple dollars worst case, or maybe you can even return to the hobby shop.
