If you guys don't hate me enough already-- this was my 'Edinger' chassis... sold it on ebay a few weeks ago for $0.60.




We drilled them to make them lighter & faster (it worked) - and being 15/16 years old, my hand skills were not what they are today

yeah-- I used those holes to let me get in with a screwdriver, when needed...

To be honest these kinda holes & modifications don't really bother me too much even on a 'shelfer', so long as its been done well - I sometimes think it adds a bit of character to a car.... like a little link to the person who owned, built & raced the car in the past.

I've modified my Corally Touring car with extra holes in its carbon chassis to move the strap so that LiPo batteries fit... there's notches in the towers to aid balancing the car left-to-right, as well as other little 'tweeks' i've done to make it better. Its my current race car, built to win.... to hell with the fact that some 'collector' might be disgruntled with my 'hacking' in years to come

Well um i know this guy who is related to the cuzn of this other guy who has done it before.......Oh OK ya iv done it and hate myself still today for doin it ...any chassis i can find that does not have that hole is a gem.

This is my VONATS/weekly racer. Nice runner Worlds chassis with 2 ugly holes!! I didn't drill it

Yup! call me Mr. lazy ,done both even taped the side to put the ON/Off metal tab on.

I raced my RC-10 hard bitd, but never cut/drilled unneeded holes in the tub back then.

I did however cut a hole in a chassis I purchased for $2.00 to fit an RC-10B3 transmission during my most recent build.

I guess the same way that if I ever did get pix of mine done and posted you would see some on them too but I voted no to ever drilling them myself. Seems that I have 7 of them drilled but have never drilled one myself because I guess I just wasn't smart enuf to be lazy ...honestly didn't know why the hole was there . As with any of mine I always power it up first before mounting and center it...then adjust from there like mentioned above. Makes for more frustration but what the heck .

I had really bad servos that the screws always fell out, so I drilled the holes. I think back then it made the chassis better because it showed that you knew how to drill a good hole, without the zig-zag marks that you got when the drill slipped and ran about 2 inches across the tub as you were starting the hole. I usually ended up putting a tamiya self tapping screw in the servo which was way to big.

IMO it depends on the condition of the tub.

I have one tub that's pretty beat up and I run frequently, so I had no problem deciding to drill a hole in it for the servo. The other tub I own has minimal scratches and spends most of it's time on the shelf, so it won't get a hole. My third tub has got a good amount of wear on it. That one won't get a hole, but will be chopped up and turned into a Scorcher Bug.

Another thing that I don't think was mentioned.... since the servo 'saver' was integrated in the bellcrank you used regular servo horns, with a metal rod and Dubro collars as a linkage. You added o-rings to the bellcrank to make your steering tighter. The only problem with that would be snapped servo horns. I would imagine a lot of these racers were either changing broken servo horns or even changing the location of the linkage to get more/less steering throw.... very few radios had steering expos back then. To me, that is what these holes are for and not to be lazy while installing a new servo.

take a look at the bane of my existence ...... an otherwise minty, virgin, and track-run only caddillac rc10. BITD someone decides to cut a notch out of the pan to accommodate a sideways battery,... who runs a sideways battery anyway ( and no these parts have not been whitened )
