I imagine a flea market/yard sale nut finding someone's dusty old shelfer and buying it for next to nothing with plans to turn it for a quick buck. And then karma bites him in the butt when the Blackfoot pops out of the bungeed trunk of his Plymouth Reliant.
Let us know how it turns out.

!
I was thinking almost the same thing, except around here it would be a 30-40 year old Chevy truck full of junk. I hope it wasn't a family treasured collectable or something. I would have stopped when I first saw it, but the guilt of wondering if someone was looking for it would have ate me alive. Since so much time had past, and it (most of it) was still there an hour later, the guilt is non-existent. I'd be willing to bet it hadn't been run in at least a decade
and that it may have actually been on it's way to a flea market somewhere...I guess I saved it from a fate worse than a slow painfull death.

Is that a good motor compared to a standard 540?
I've only owned a couple Tamiya's over the years, and they've all had Mabuchi's in them.
Is there a difference?

The 540 SDd is only marginally better than a stock silver can. It's a factory hop up so that's why it's sought after and that's why I said it's the icing on the cake.

I found a set of Losi shocks for the rear in my parts stash. W/minor mods, they are perfect. One of the stock Blackfoot lower shock mounts were thrashed, so this was an easy fix. I'd like to match up the fronts soon.
The rest of this thing is nearly perfect. All I did was tear it down, de-burr all the plastic twisty spots, (the original builder didn't cut anything from the parts trees) and clean it up.
Other than the body, it looks like about 90% of the running chassis will be salvaged.
Will toss all the plastic bushings and add a fresh set of bearings soon.
I may even try to recycle the ancient Futaba receiver & servos.
The wheels may be a challenge to find, if I don't do the Frog conversion..
An updated Monster Beetle build would be cool, now that a Tamiya body is easily available now.

Old Futaba receiver cleaned up nice, will see if I can get my old Magnum Junior to "talk" to it.
Servos appear OK.
I've got an old Novak that will take the place of the trashed mechanical control.

Brand new eBay NOS rear axles installed to replace the bent ones, ball bearings added all around.
Went through the trans, everything's perfect.
Packed the axle joints with fresh Tamiya ceramic grease robbed from the 'Scorcher build.
I finally found my HPI wheel adapters.
I'm feeling another Beetle-type project is in the works, since I never owned a Monster Beetle....hmmm..
I'm planning something special, yet super cheap for wheels.

I haven't decided on a body yet, the Parma Baja is only a temp.
(it's a left over)
The green doesn't cut it with the red chassis.
Whether it's going to be a Parma or Proline, it will be painted red to give it an updated Monster Beetle look.
