In a word, TRACTION! If you look at photos of most trailing arm cars you will notice that they have an aggressive front tire, like the TQ70 or the Race Prep RP-927. That was to get the car to steer. They are a blast to drive though!

Ah! I thought so - for the same reason VW Beetles do so well at drag racing with relatively low BHP Maximum weight transfer onto the back wheels!

Also would explain why us Brits never really brought into the idea - most of our tracks tend to be on high-grip grass, so rear end traction is less of an issue.

I would imagine a trailing arm car would be less predictable in the turns though, with fixed camber angle & a constantly adjusting wheelbase?

I never noticed any unpredictability in the corners with mine. I also put a washer under the inside mounting point to correct some of the negative camber.

Trailing arms work great on rough tracks - in fact the rougher the better. Just put in more power and pull back on the go button. They do not work as well on the smooth high bite tracks, as they will push and traction roll more. Camber is always adjustable by adding washers under the mounting post as is the toe-in on some kits.

How have you been? Hope all is well and good you Adam! I have cleaned off a work bench in the garage for maybe some RC building for fun. Thinking about cleaning up and refurbishing some of the old stuff...

Nice, that little Bimmer looks like a bunch of fun! I've been living in Germany for the last year and a half now and I'm loving it. There's tons of early BMW's around as you can probably imagine. They're really cool, especially the ones that aren't over done. I haven't had a chance to go for a ride in one yet but I'm hoping to some time soon.

I hope you get some time to go through your old RC stuff, I know you're got some cool things stashed away

I had a little time extra today and got this accomplished.

I would most likely be in for at least one set of arms/mounts.
I would also be interested in the chassis, as mentioned above - I have one graphite chassis, but, I don't really want to drill new holes in it...

My machinist has been busy lately which is why I wasn't rushing to get these modeled up. Next is the base and then we should be good to go. He should free up a little soon and will be machining these after work at his home shop. As soon as I know an approx time I will let you all know.
