Did some work this week getting it ready for new RX and servo:

First, my rookie attempt at painting:

I still need to adjust the shocks, but I did do all new turnbuckles.

So, it is all together now, with hub conversion, new rubber, and hauls. I test drove it tonight, and when I was done after 15 minutes, the motor was red hot.

If you recall, I am running a Venom 19d "Modified Motor" with the Traxxas 28 tooth pinion gear that came as an optional gear for my son's truck. It worked awesome with the NiHm battery, but with the LiPo, the motor is red hot. I am running a Venom 4200mAh 2S2P 7.4V 30C LiPo Hard Case Saddle Pack. Anyone have a recommendation on a pinion gear? The motor got so hot that the lexan was melting........

I cut an air intake into the body by the motor last night, and may trim a little bit in the back as well. Like I said before, this is a runner for me to have fun with my son. I have a smaller pinion gear (not even sure what tooth# it is but it is almost 50% smaller than the one on there now) that I am going to put on when I get home from work.

Now I want to get the rear wing and kit, but really don't feel like dropping another $50. Would rather get street tires for it....

Li-po and brushed moters are not the best combination. If you want your stuff to survive, stop after 5 minutes and let it all coool down a bit before you run another 5. A smaller pinion is not allways the key: an under-geared moeter gets just as hot, but 28 teeth does sound a bit high indeed even for a 19turns

Yeah, I'm probably going to switch to brushless soon. That is if I an find one that doesn't cost a ton, and the esc will fit.

So I went to New Era (I love that place by the way) and discussed my problem with the brothers. They hooked me up with a 27t HPI motor and a 18 tooth pinion to try out. Going to the parking lot with the boy to test run it.

Edited to add: What a bag of fail that was. Car was slower than the second coming, and the Venom motor is smoked. So, off to get brushless I go tomorrow.

What CVD's did you end up running in the front end...Looks like you are running the outter holes on the arms

Edit...Should have read the other post on conversion first...LOL

So, I put an LRP brushless system in it, switched the tires to Dirt Hawgs so they wouldn't grip as hard on asphalt (flipped it a couple of times turning too quick). My son hit the Yoke at full speed, wrecked his car, and beat up the Yoke a little. So, I am having new arms made by New Era for the front and back, and had to order new shocks for the front. I swear, my car is like a magnet to him. After about five minutes worth of work, I am up and running again, and so is he.....

I'll put pix up when I get the new arms in.

True. However, I can't keep paying $50 for a set of plastics. There is a week spot on them right at the pin, andI have had 3 splits now.

The crashes have been accidental. After all, my son is only 7, driving an rc that goes 40mph. I don't think he'll be crashing into me any time soon again, after I told him I would sell his car if he did it again......

The lipo saddle packs? Ya, long running time, especially with this motor set up. This thing just edges out my son, and now he's pissed at me.....

So I just realized how big an idiot I am. The rear knuckles are the same as the front. I have been having issues with the front set, the king pins keep falling out. So a couple of awesome members have sold me some. Then, I was looking at them today as I was tearing it back down for the new arms tomorrow, and realized they are all the same, and the ones on the rear have perfect threads.

D'oh. Well, I'll have extra.....
