There are a lot of people just parting out the re-re kits on ebay...Is how I got the tub for the first Hornet...A buddy of mine just picked up a vintage Brat shell minus windows and rollbar. I just have to talk him out of it as he bought the Brat re-re which had the hard and lexan shell. I'm sure he'll cave!!

cool , I like rat's
Tamiyaclub had a very cool midnight pumkin on an M-chassis, orange primer, with broken windshield, rust and even bullet holes if I remember well.
Parma does a lexan version of a pumpkin too...
somebody should try it on a shortened rc 10 or hornet

By the time you buy a body ~$70 and wheels ~$40 plus you will need the special front body mount and side mounts your almost at the price of a re-re brat.

Jeff,
Yes you are easy but why you think we're friends....Birds of a feather flock together...
Jim,
Well on the frog I'm only into it for $20 for the Brat body, so I think I can get it done for a little cheaper than price of the a new Brat re-re..We will have to see! I may not go with original wheels and tires. I havent decided on that.
Here's a pic of the Brat body I picked up for $20. It's an original, just missing the glass. It's started to yellow from age but wont see that once I get it painted.
Cheapie Hornet #2 arrived Monday. I cleaned it up some. I'ts mostly clean except for the gearbox as I didnt wanna disassemble it, but wanted to put an ESC so I could see what shape it was in. The body was remarkably in good shape. I just wiped it down and added some decals I had sitting around. Here she is...She's not much but I like her. I took the DTX-4 esc and Tamiya Sport Tuned motor out of my King Beetle in it.

GRRRR, that must be the sound of Tamiya gears!
Just mocking around, looks cool your paint scheme.
How many do you plan to collect of these?

ED...
I plan on collecting as many as my meager budget can get a hold of. I really dont have much in any of them. The ratrod arrived yesterday but it's gonna need a total rebuild. the body was trash as it was damaged beyond repair in transit to me. Its a shame as it was an original Sand Scorcher shell. I'll keep it as I've never owned one. It can join my other Beetle lids that I refuse to throw away. One is from my very first Monster Beetle. I painted the Brat body yesterday. It turned out pretty good. I just need to put a few coats of clear on it. Ill post pics then...

Well the Ratrod got here last week and the body was trashed thanks to the USPS. The chassis was pretty much toast too, so I bought a new re-re plastic kit for it and got a hold of another Beetle lid. I traded this one to a buddy about 4 or 5 years ago...
Here's where it stands right now...

With the other buggy brethren..The other Hornet is on the bottom shelf...

Got the Brat painted...just have to finish some more detail painting and clear it...

Jim,
It's Duplicolor's Metal Specks Copper...I've used it before but definately needs a clear coat as it doesnt dry very glossy. I used it on my Kyosho Viper boat too.

slip all you want my friend.
I got my own favourite model to modify the heck out of:
6 built cars in my collection, 4 of them Kyosho Ultima's.
Show us some pics when you've let your imagination go wild on them.
By the way ED are my initials, my name is Erik

Nice cars mate, I am beginning to feel I own the worlds supply of Yokomo YZ834B type cars so don't worry about having to much of one model.....

Well got the lot the other day...The Hornet is pretty much trash and being reduced to a parts buggy as I took the gears out to put in the Grasshopper. The Hopper is in very good shape. I pulled all the decals off as most were lifting anyway. I tried to decide on a color and figured since it was a Grasshopper it should be some kind of green. I was at the LHS today and saw this Testors color...It's Boyd's Lime Pearl. I really like how it turned out...I'll try to get some outside pics as this color really pops in the sunlight.
I"m thinking I might add my gold proline hub covers for the wheels...
Let me know what you think...
