how are you cleaning the white parts?
I picked up a basket case RC10 this weekend... in a way i wish i had not. In another way i am glad i did. I just wish it was more original and not so much home made..
either way prior owner tried to die the white red.. it does not look so good. I am hoping what ever way you cleaned your may work on mine..

muck, if they have been dyed already, there isn't much to do other than dye them a darker more preferred color....like black.

So for the white parts i have left, what did he use?

warm soapy water and elbow grease go a long way. there is another discussion on how to make white parts "minty" white again using common household chemicals, check it out here http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=14978

I've been using simple green with good luck on nylon parts. Throw them in a jar for a little bit, and then commence scrubbing. pipe cleaners work good for the hinge pin holes.

oops, i didn't notice there was a second page already.

I tried 3 different techniques in cleaning the parts.

For starters, i washed everything with soap and brushed the dirt off with a tooth brush and a toothpick.

The gearbox, which i did first, i dipped in hydrogen peroxide and left them in the sun for many hours. I wasn't impressed with the results, but i might have done it wrong. Are you supposed to leave them in the liquid, or just dip them and put them out in the sun?

For the whole rear, i went a little nutty and made a dangerous mixture of hydrogen peroxide, prestone dot 4, BLEACH, dishwasher soap, degreaser, and i think something else, but i don't remember. I was stupid enough to take a wiff of the stuff...i'm not kidding, i almost fainted and thought i'd have to go to the hospital. I put the parts in the liquid overnight and the next day i dried them in the sun.

For the front i tried something a little simpler: just pure bleach. I dipped them and cleansed them with a brush and toothpick. I didn't leave overnight, but every time i'd finish a part i'd put it in the bleach container i was using. I started the process while watching Speed Racer, the 2008 movie (I know its crappy, but sometimes i just like watching horribly made movies), and was done by the end of it. No physical intoxications, and any drain bama...i mean brain damage was caused by the movie, not the bleach.

I could probably do a better job, but i thought about it and realized i'm going to run this baby around a dirt track anyway, so it doesn't need to be perfect white.

On a side note, i think i made a booboo last night and bought a car i shouldn't have bought:

Getting home late from school tonight, so no picture updates for today.

I saw that car on ebay too. It looks rough but you can make the best of it. Perhaps it will provide parts for another car. Shocks and 6gear trans are nice to have. The "custom" nose set up...well not so much. Probally want to correct that. Hope the chassis is straight

The whiting process with peroxide requires the parts be submerged in the solution and put in the sun for about 8 hours if you have a sunny day.

ok i'm in the garage right now and have another question. I'm rebuilding the stealth diff, but apparently there's supposed to be a spring inside according to a worlds edition manual, but there was no spring in this one. Is this a big issue? Diff seemed to work fine before i took it apart. Need to know before i put it back together.

I really like this project... goes to prove that one man's trash (ahem Rubbish )is another man's treasure.

Good to see this car being given some love - i'm sure it can be revived & returned back to the track!

Oh what we'd do for an indoor off road track over here!!

Can you post a pic of where the spring is supposed to be located?

Is it the ball diff thrust spiring? Off the top of my head I can think of two spings that are used on the stealth. Neither are in the case per se. One is the slipper spring. The other is the ball diff thrust spring that resides inside the outdrive. I belive the stealth ball diff thrust spring is simlar in size/shape to the thrust spring on the 6 gear trans. Again that's from menory so.....

i'm not home so i can't take pictures right now.

yes, it goes inside the stealth diff gear (which looks identical to the b3 diff gear, apparently). In the manual it shows a spring residing inside, i guess it had to do with how soft or hard you want to make your diff. Anyway, i didn't see one when i took it apart, but the diff seemed to work without it before. I'm wondering if i need to shell out and buy one or i can make do without it. I'm trying to rebuild it with spending little to nothing.
