I was going to use this company for my T4. They have stuff for the RC10 so might work for ya. Short rear towers for TC3 shocks.

Craigslist find. Would I be better off starting with this chassis instead?

Well, it all depends on what you are looking for. If you want a purely vintage truck, then starting with a buggy chassis and some offset wheels is the way to go. After that you can do all kinds of stuff, like new shock towers and shorter shocks, a chassis with an offset battery pack, maybe turn the motor around.
If you'd like more of a pure runner, I'd start with an RC10T and lower it with the Factory Works towers. After that, try driving it and see how it runs. Them decide what other changes to the layout that you'd like to make.
I had a Parma Dodge Ram body, the street truck, on my RC10T with Pro-Line Strikers and it looked pretty sweet. I had to chop out the bed to clear the off-road shock towers, but that wouldn't have been a problem with new shock towers.

Can you give me the part numbers for the front and rear shock towers from Factory Works? Don't really see any on their site that look like they will work. Is there a need to drill your own mounting holes for the RC10T bulkheads?
Or can you give me the part numbers for other front and rear shock towers that will work also?

Here's a link to my 10T oval build with the Factory Works towers:

The last time I ordered from Daryl Lane (Factory Works), he was sold out of 10T oval rear towers, but still had front towers for sale. The PN's are 2089 front and 2090 rear.

If one purchased a threaded shock set and wanted to upgrade to the VCS2 shock, can you buy the VCS2 rebuild kit only or do you have to buy the VCS2 upgrade kit first?

Which threaded shock set will you be starting with? From what I can tell, the VCS and VCS2 shocks are the on-road ones, and the V2 shocks are the new off-road shocks. It doesn't look like they make the V2 shocks shorter than the .89 B4 fronts. These look pretty good, and are a little cheaper than two new sets of .56 shocks:

The factory team kit #3692 for the TC3 is what I was looking at starting with. Then upgrading them with kit #31123 or rebuild kit #31120.
