I stand corrected, I popped the diff rings off and there were the diff balls. The gear is pretty gummed up so I think I will just get a new one along with new idler gear etc to rebuild it properly.

Here's another question for all of the experts: are there any other outdrives that will work for this tranny? Ie lightweight, Sc10 or B2/3/4?

Just wondering, Tower only shows the right od for some reason

the left outdrive is discontinued.

you can't use any other outdrive that wasn't designed for the 2.25 stealth. b2, b3, b4, sc10...... none of those will fit.

Well that sucks...was hoping for a full rebuild. So you can't substitute parts from a newer tranny to make the newer outdrives work?

Would this kit work as a rebuild? States RC10 GT, but it all looks the same...what's the difference between the GT and the RC10 tranny if there is one?

i can't see your picture anymore, but unless the outdrive slots are really chewed up or the threads are messed up, you don't really need to change the outdrives.

No, there is NOTHING on the market currently for the original Stealth gearbox. It's a vintage item needing vintage parts to rebuild or replace. There is no quick fix. If you want easy to buy parts, buy current race cars.

Sorry if I annoyed you - I just like to ask a lot of questions and always want to know more about something.

If I can ask - why doesn't the GT rebuild kit work? It looks the exact same...is it the size of the diff gear? Or is it just the outdrives that are completely different?

I realize that there are lots of parts that cannot be easily obtained and I'm okay with that but at the same time, I would think that just because something wasn't originally designed for a car, doesn't mean that it wouldn't necessarily work.

I am relying on the folks here to steer me in the right direction and I apologize if the questions have been asked before!

Chris, the only reason that you are annoying anyone that I can see is you have asked, and been answered the same question five different ways and had each one answered each time, but you still are asking the same question. They all look the same because they were all designed by the same group of people.

they look the same, but are just 'close' and 'close' won't cut it for substitute parts.

the original stealth had a 2.4:1(WRONG!! it's 2.25:1) ratio, where all the other currently available diffs are different ratios. the way they accomplished this is with larger differential gears. if they would have kept the rings and outdrives the same, and only changed the gear tooth count, we wouldn't have this problem. instead, and for specific reasons(more power handling is one major one) for every larger gear, they have different sized diff rings and corresponding outdrive hubs. so nothing cross-fits between ratios in the differential specifically.

if you were really resourceful and had the proper tools, I bet you could grind down a larger set of outdrives to fit into the 2.25:1 gear and diff rings.
