If you are running modern Lipo it is lighter than back in the day anyways with much more power and brushless power the overall weight matters not much. Where it is placed and distributed to a larger degree. That said I tend to think for an average driver like me much of these conversations are theoretical and if you have the right tires, springs, and the basics covered you can do fairly well.

For better drivers and the elites I know little tweeks matter a lot more than for me as I can't tell and don't get enough track time to be able to fuss too much.

I agree, if you run the route where some guys mount the shock to the front lateral link, right there you only have one stock link and could replace the rest. I am not sure how much better it woudl be per se, but replacement would be readily available and it would look blingy if nothing else  .

I've given a lot of thought to just using titanium turnbuckles with metal ball ends. The shocks can easily be mounted to tie-rods :D

thread a nut up the tie rod, then the shock, another nut and then the ball end. Frankly shock mounting is what is giving me the hardest time in regards to the links vs tie rods.

I was able to clean up the play by knocking out the balls, and using bearings inside the ball sockets. i didnt do it properly with flanged bearings, but that might work better then what I had.
