I'm rather surprised the dude didn't see it coming...it's savannah plains fer chrissake...not exactly like it charged out of the forest or something!

I think he did see it, or it looks like he did. You can see he keeps turning his head right up til the point it happens.

The neck brace comes AFTER the accident.
Well for him... maybe. Me, I have one/had one with me and just decided not to wear it cause it's not comfortable with my underarmor. NEVER AGAIN (comfort or not)!
My son hated the Leatt Brace, he never wore it and it was not cheap. It was the all carbon fiber version! Knowing safety comes first. He tried a friends Alpinestars brace and he loved the comfort! So we purchased this one:
http://www.alpinestars.com/shop/categories/moto/protection/bionic-neck-support-cf/ and sold the Leatt!
You may want to give Alpinestars a try Jay!

As to whether the guy sees the beast coming, I think he actually points at it - watch the beginning (about 3-5 seconds in), it's like he's pointing it out to the guy with the camera...
I guess there's not much you can do though, do you stop on the trail with some crazed ungulate charging towards you??? Do you try to outrun the thing??? I don't know.

Thanks Rod, I've been thinking about it. I am kinda waiting, one, cause I can't ride right now anyway and two, wanting to see what is coming out that is integral to/compatible with armor.

I dunno either, but I guess I probably wouldn't continue riding at a consistent speed in a predictable direction if something that big was charging at me across an open plain.

I just don't think he thought it would do that. I'm sure he saw it coming and may have thought it was just too far away. When he's pointing, he's pointing in the distance, and looks away then all of the sudden the hit. After it hit him you can see how fast it runs into the distance, he just wasn't expecting it to cover the ground that fast. I'm also wondering if it was headed in one direction at first and then changed directions towards him and he didn't see that.
