5) Rear end assembly;
That famous 5-link;
Close-up;
6) Front end assembly;
Ballraced steering - note the additional plastic spacers beneath the ali posts - to allow for the raised height of the front bulkhead due to the additional bumper.
7) Shock absorbers; I built up one shock filled with oil but soon realised that although my cartridges were unused/new the o-rings were passed their sell-by date & were never going to let the oil stay contained within the shock body

, so all the shocks are built dry. I would much prefer to have the shocks filled as the car just doesn't feel 'right' all bouncy.... I might just fit the later style 'thin' re-buildable cartridges even though they are are not 'period correct'
Parts lined up for assembly;
Assembled - albeit dry (I did have trouble starting off the threads on one of the cartridges - I think that was due to poor machining of the corresponding shock body). Note the early spec spring cup & ball joint on the front shocks
Back to the front end... here it is complete - with wheels & shocks fitted;

That is fantastic...one day I will build an original 5 link car too, just having too much fun running my oldies for now.
Any shelf would be proud to hold that trophy up.

RC p0rn at its finest! Great job Dan, makes me want one!!! The paint looks really nice, I'd be happy to have that as my race car right now, let alone in 1988!

Thanks Ben
@ JK Racing, the next build I hope will be a runner... desperate to see how these 5-link cars drive
The runner car will be built from servicable used parts.... a mate gave me a box of spares which included the remains of the old Jrx2 that he raced BITD - the very same car I lusted after when he & his dad brought it along freshly built & shiney, to our club all those years ago.... the runner car I want to re-build using as many parts as possible from that very car.
The car (& my mate

) are to the Right in this old newspaper cutting

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.... I cannot lay claim to the bodyshell design, I copied the box art scheme from the 'Proformance' upgrade kit for the JRX2, in-particular this coloured-in render which I believe was done by Highwayracer??
Apparently they are Gil Losi Jr's colours?

It doesn't matter that it's not your design Dan, you did all the graft to make it all come together, great job.
My XXT box art was not my design, still alot of hard work went into it, just like this build.
Congrats dood!

Its been a long while since an update....
I've been 'boyed' up by talk at my local off road club to run some casual heats of vintage racers, as & when there are enough of us willing to run our old cars - indeed two fellow club members have already assembled an Optima & a CAT in readiness.
I do already have my RC10 runner that would be suitable (the one in my avatar) & of course my XX that I ran last year (although I think it might a little too modern to be within the spirit of things) ... but i've always wanted to drive a 5-link JRX2 - so a few hours looking through all may various boxes of parts & torn-down cars, left me with this selection of parts which should hopefully make me a reliable runner... even though it might not be the prettiest thing on the grid.
I have already cleaned up all these parts - spending most of Saturday with a toothbrush & a bottle of washing-up liquid in hand! & I'm hoping to do a little more on it tonight - but I will keep this thread updated with this car's development
