Yup, SpeedArena was started by an old friend and brought into the Vortex Media Group. They also have BMW, Mazda, Subaru and Volvo enthusiast sites.

Do you know Jimmy Sykes over there? Great guy and good photographer. I have been off the circuit for a year know as a photog, miss it, but don't.

I met Jimmy a couple of times at Waterfest. He's a really good shooter and a pretty nice guy, to boot. The by product of two hyper detailed graphic designers starting an online car magazine is that the design and photography were always second to none.

I thought I read (a while back) that AE did a pan car that used hex style sedan wheels. If so, you should be able to use the front adaptors for the RC10 buggies as well.

The rc10L3 touring used touring car shells, but standard pan car wheels. I don't think AE ever made an adapter to put hex hubs on a pan car.

Can't help with the 1.8T, but I've owned beetle models from 1953 thru 1967... restorations are now a touchy issue on original paint cars... I've still got a garage full of pre-1965 parts.

It's all about "original patina"... to the extent that even rusty old crappers should not ever see the spray booth.

I'm all about original paint, but when the original paint has pretty much either fallen off, or been burned off by the sun it's just another rusty car... Or, as the kids say..."a hoodride".

here is my scale gti with roof rack. This was done several years ago, way before I had a real camera. the pics were taken with a crappy usb webcam. I think I still have the rack somewhere, but the car is long gone.

any recommendations on a good chassis for this project? i dont want to blow a ton of coin on this, i'll probably shelve it anyway...

i'm looking at tc3's and 4's at the moment. would those accept the yokomo wheels i posted a couple replies up?

most TC rims are standard, exception being early losi street weapon, but even losi saw the err of their ways and went 12mm hex. Offset does vary widely, that will need to be checked. So basically any complete roller TC for cheap off eBay will work.

Yup, if you aren't going to run it, any $50 TC3 or even any of the Tamiya plastic chassis cars would be perfect. You should be able to get any of those for way under $100. I think there are still new Tamiya TC kits with bodies and everything will be under $100, too, like the TT-01. Plenty to choose from.

take a look at the tamiya f103gt. i used it for my nascar project.
i wanted something scale, and didn't want that complex 4wd. just plain and simple.
this car is killer: ultra light, 2 wheel drive, no friction at all, drive-train like a pan car,
but uses 12mm hex hubs front and rear. for pure speed, there is no better one.
as long as you're driving straight forward
