I just picked up a Sling Shot off of ebay. I know very little about this car but notice when I got it it was missing the rear belt, well thanks to this thread I ordered one of these
http://www.fingertechrobotics.com/proddetail.php?prod=ft-belt its only 4mm wide but I figured for $4 it wouldn't hurt to try and had to be a lot easier then cutting one down.

Let me know how the belt works. I just ordered several more from sdp-si for backup. What kind of tires/wheels are you going to use? I have fitted mine with Custom Works Street-tracks, work pretty well with the stock 3 piece rims.

I'd also be interested to know how this would work in a belt-driven Optima. Looks like a good product.

I'll let you know, I have some period dutrax foam tires that I bought for my Turbo Optima Mid in the early 90's that have never been used. I still need to locate a dog bone for the rear as the car came missing one!

I received my belts from sdp-si today, I ordered the 6mm ones and they were a tad too wide. simple fix, I put a piece of aluminum on my lathe and rigged a cutter, and took the 1mm, off. I think if you order them via phone, they will custom cut them to 5mm. I bought 2 of the GT2 cog type and the 2 of the HTD. Both will work, but I think the GT2 has a slightly better fit. I'll let everyone know how it runs once the rain lets up.

On another note, I've had issues with small rocks getting jammed in the belts, I ordered a CW Dominator chassis cover and received it today. With a bit of trimming, it fits the slingshot nicely, to include the radio gear, and should reduce the issues of things getting into the drive line. I've also fitted CW rims and tires to the car as well. I used HPI RS4 outer axles with the cross pin to fit them. Works great.
