Talk about a nice result

I think for me thats where the greatest satisfaction is with this hobby - buying someone's un-loved pile-of-poo for very little ££s & turning it into something that is either a full-on shelf queen or even just a fun reliable runner.

I've always enjoyed helping other people with their racers - that maybe haven't been built with the care & attention that is necessary for best performance - which would often mean me taking the car home & pretty much re-building it! But the car that really got me into this vintage 'lark' was an old Tamiya Clodbuster that I found at our local tip/dump for the princely sum of £2;



Which after a little work & some cash came up like this;


I brought my first RC10 (a Worlds as it happened) from this ebay pic - scored for £23 including postage!


I must admit I spent a fair bit on parts (mostly upgrade bits) but I ended up with this;



Even my YZ-10 was quite a state when I first got it;


Its now my most prized shelf queen;


Many techniques for saving or cleaning parts have come through mantaining my racers over the many years i've been racing... even modifying a broken part on race day just to make the next race.

I'm just now starting to find the joy in restoring old cars, mostly broguht on by a run of good luck finding them. My most successful one so far has been my Cox Bandido.

I got lucky with this one; the only things I had to buy for it were ball bearings. And I have 3/4 of another car left over, in case I want to attempt to build another one. I have also found a Clod Buster, a Falcon, a Blackfoot, a Frog (basket case used as parts for the Blackfoot), and an RC10CE, all for less than the price of a new Slash. Used cars rule.

Speaking of which, here's a quick shot of my "other" project car, a 1991 Mazda Miata:


Base model, no power anything. Had it for 3 years, and have spent a total of $2200 including the purchase price. Paint's shot, interior's ratty, and it has 210,000 miles on it, but it's still a ton of fun to drive. No payment and cheap insurance and decent gas mileage. I love this thing.

The servo, dirt and rocks were expoxied/glued to the chassis, the hole was quite hacked.

Here's a Mauri Hunter that was actually a fairly easy restore but looked pretty bad when I got it off a table at a swap meet.

Yeah I like junk!

Nothing like buying junk and finding a diamond.
Bought a Super Champ for cheap, turned out to have a brass diff and hop up axles.
Should have kept that one, did pick up a couple to replace it.

I used to be into old motor scooters, actually still am, my wife would cringe every time I drug some rusty iron home.

I like junk because then you can run it.

My brother's Galaxy transformed from junk to gem quite nicely, but it took a lot of modding.

This just arrived....
Gotta love junk.

Already found about 8 motors and a couple of ESCs (to be tested), a pair of Cougar2 front arms (score!), an Airtronics XL 2P transmitter that should be fun to play with, a nice usable pair of 2" rear wheels for RC10 or Losi with near-new Jammin tyres, and something that was advertised as an RC10 chassis, that I will have to get up in the "What the heck is this" thread....

Oh, and the KO tx had the exact part I needed to repair another KO tx I sold recently that was returned.... very happy about that!

Certainly holds more interest to me than the 30 or so packs of NIP Kyosho parts that also arrived today....
