Thanks for that,

A little more info on the car;

Just before the vintage meet in Sydney, I bought a re-re Buggy champ gear box. The reason for this is that modern motors just
don't fit in the original gear box and my old 540 was stuffed. All the original internals still fit in the re-re and mine is running a Thorp diff.

The Thorp diff is interesting compared to the modern stuff, having only one thrust washer and no diff washers. I tried to rebuild it
without success, then realized after looking at the Thorp manual, that you could add a second thrust washer.

I polished the Diff surfaces and added the second washer and now it runs perfectly smooth like brand new.
Another good thing to do is to shim the gearbox. It should last for a long time now.

I'll post a pic without the shell soon.

Cheers

Kilroy

Nice work here. I am so glad someone dare to drive an old lady like this :)

Is the chassis standard length? Or it is the longer version??

Yeah, I love driving this car and it seems to be pretty tough so far.

The chassis is the standard length.. I think its a copy of a crp version.
I used to have a long RCH one and sold it to Bullfrog who is on this forum.. I wish I had of kept it now.

One day I think I'll get a copy of the one I have and make it 1/2 inch longer to match the RCH version.

Cheers

What kind of wheels are you using here??

The rears are probably RC10 B2 or B3 and the fronts are Imex for Tamiya.. All the wheels are 2.2 diameter.

I'm after some different front wheels with more offset to make the front wider and so I can get more steering lock without hitting the suspension arms. Any suggestions anyone?

I put a 5 X 8 mm tamiya bronze bushing on the front shaft first, then put the wheels on. This way, each side gain about 2 or 3 mm. The down side is that the front wheel lock nut may not get its nylon engage and may work loose easily. My solutions are: (1) machine off the metal side of the nut by the thickness of the 5 X 8 bushing, which I did, or (2) you may use 100% nylon lock nut, or (3) use a little locktite.

Another way is to get Yokomo hub carrier for kyosho buggies, that requires you to use the old 870C type 4 nuts front wheel and you may also add washers to widen the track.

I also have widen the width by using wider front suspension tubes + wider custom chassis. Those aluminium tubes are not difficult to come by.

yeah right! your painting is awesome!

I was thinking a cut down lexan SS shell http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SAND-SCORCHER-BODY-VW-BAJA-BUG-BEETLE-MONSTER-/150632415894?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item2312644296 sit it real low over the chassis & trim the guards back to clear the 2.2 inch wheels. Even do it in the exact same paint scheme as your RR type shell.

That would be cool!
