Thanks for everything guys, we had a great first day and only had one minor spill.

First ride, 1st gear only

After a little while, 2nd gear.

We are in the process of shopping for boots, a chest plate, and other protective gear.

I started to ride at 5 years old, and am still around 33 years later to talk about it and continue to ride on the street. I started out on a Honda 70 then went to a Yamaha 80 then a Yamaha YZ80 and up to a YZ100. Make sure they understand to go slow at first until comfortable. Maybe drive the bike around yourself and show them how fast to go.

When I first started my Dad doubled up on the back and showed me what to do. It was some of my best memories I have.

If you do not already have a bike, perfect reason to get one now and you two can hit the trails together.

EDIT:  Jumped ahead without reading all the posts.

Looking good out there. When are they going to be on SpeedTV racing in AMA?

When I was four my dad made the huge mistake of taking me by the bike shop down the road from the house. I could not forget how awesome the PW50 was. I was in heaven sitting on that bike. Unfortunately we left the shop that day without a bike

One day my dad showed up from work with that PW50 in the back of his truck and it was all over. I rode the wheels off of that bike and slowly progressed up until my last bike, 07 RMZ450. I just sold my bike a few months ago.

Adam, you guys are going to have an absolute blast. This is definately going to be a memory for the young one. make sure to take plenty of pics, they will make him smile when he is older (just look at how I was styling on my bike back in 1981, I was a badass  )

I bought a KTM Pro Sr for my daughter when she was 7. I taught her how to ride on that bike (had to put spacers in the carb to keep the bike from opening up at first). Didn't take long and she was really hauling on the bike. Of course she didn't last long with riding so now the bike sits all by itself in the corner of the garage.

Adam, check out www.Motosport.com. You can usually find last years gear dirt cheap as they are moving it under clearance. I have found quality youth gear is pretty easy to find cheap.

Jake, badass for sure!! 8) That pic made me think of this pic looking overgrown but still 'stylin' on my oldschool Honda 50 back in the early 80's.
I rode the crap out of that 2 speed minibike, along with a bunch of others along the way. Good times!

Was looking through some old pics to scan with my kids and came across this one. My last dirtbike at around 2000 that I ended up going through and riding quite a bit. '82 Kawasaki KX500. I still love the ole 2 strokes, and man was this a hog!

Bob I have never got a chance to ride a 2 stroke 500 but I have heard they are ridiculously fast. Nice looking bike.

I had an '81 Kawi KDX 250 2 stroke a few years before that one with a fresh motor that was real quick, but the 500 was hardcore, wanted to rip your arms off kinda torque.
