Actually, I've busted the planetary gears. But never anything else (plastic or metal).

I put it down to the grease all leaking out. I didn't have time that week to do any maintenance and decided to race it even though I suspected the diff might have very little grease in it. Since then I've switched to sticky marine grease.

When I was running a plastic tranny and brushless, I ran it till the gears felt like razors.

I have run a few of mine til they get that sharp...razors grip til they break so its all good

Mostly the ones that have gotten broke locally are by people that don't think maintenance is something you do with toys . Get what you get when you live by the 'no maint.' rule.
