Chris K wrote: I think that the major reason they didn't take off in that time relates to a couple of things; first is that (my memory anyway) they weren't promoted all that much; they ran a few ads but that was pretty much it. I'm not sure that quanities ever made it off of the Left coast. Second is that there was not a lot of tie to full scale racing - yes, there was the SODA group that ran trucks such as this in the desert venues of the West coast and Baja but there wasn't a series that was National in nature to the best of my knowledge.

Traxxas hit the SC truck right between the eyes with a simple, reasonably priced vehicle that looked like full scale race vehicles - pretty much a combination that will promise success!

But I always thought that the Losi truck was cool but it never gained a following in the Midwest to my recollection....
Interesting, thanks Chris. I dont ever remember seeing anything like this over here (UK) either, I am sure I'd remember.

This is a car on ebay currently, the shell looks like a heavy metal one, but they've fitted some decals to the front that look cool, not the originals, anyone any ideas what they are off? From looking at the other decals maybe off a new Losi sticker sheet?

These did reach our shores under the 'Soda Truck' monica - my mate (who was a Helger driver like yourself Ben) converted his XX4 buggy into one, but it was a craze that didn't last very long & didn't really catch on... I think that at one of our club meetings we may have had a heat on two or three of these cars. The main reason Matt converted his buggy I believe was to race it at one of the Helger sponsored 'Damn Yankees' off road meetings where these trucks had probably their biggest outing/gathering.

IRRC DMS did have the Soda truck decals listed in their sale section some while back - but they are not listed now :?

Cheers Dan, this completely passed me by! The Damn Yankees stuff rings a bell, but I still dont recall these at all. Anyway, it'll make for a more interesting XX4 build.

wow! total throw back!... im remember the ad and wanting to do a conversion to a xx i had.... so bad!!, was gonna use 8th scale wheels with new era adapters, than saw the size difference... put a halt on a full bodied truck... i think losi tried a 2wd one too or maybe my brain is shot or was it a conversion kit with body???

one of the reasons i kinda got obsessed with the short course conversion thing, super bored with it now that its all store bought and throw away... oh well.... how about full scale dakar racers next

My TBG HM shell arrived yesterday. Overall its look pretty cool, except the guy packaged it up in a box too small for the shell so one of the arches has a crease in it  . I've managed to 'repair' it so it doesnt look too bad now.

Super excited about doing this now, going to get the XX4 build underway this week so I can get the shell mounted ready for paint!

I did think about doing a 22-SCT box art replica, that would be cool...

...but first I want to do one in my livery to go with my other XXs :D

LOSA6342?
Tough to make out.
I'll have a look through my Losi files and see if I can confirm.
