Apologies to Synergy for Photoshopping his Ultima. This just helps me visualise the colour schemes I am interested in: plain black body (or very dark gunmetal), maybe gold shocks, no wing (I personally feel they do nothing in rc scale, especially flexible lexan ones), and just the decision over wheels...

Silver: Perhaps looks a bit plain?

Image

Black: Maybe the centre wheel detail is lost too much?

Image

Gumetal: I really love this. Looks like a real car wheel.

Now imagine those colour schemes on an RC10 World's with all black chassis. It really has to be between the black and gunetal wheels imo.

Gun metal for sure. A buggy with no wing? :o

Yeah, I prefer the uncluttered look of no wing. They are only useful as a roll over protrusion. So it is more honest and cleaner looking to just omit them, imho :)

In fact I have also been toying with the idea of a removable half cage, possibly from welded steel rod, or something lighter. Of course it would have to be extremely well finished (maybe black or gold). Not sure how I would attach it. But perhaps something which goes over the lexan body roof area only, then extends out the back. Maybe like the original Ultima. It might be a unique extra scale detail. Plus it would add roll over protection with the wing missing.

Just random thoughts really. We'll see....

However they handle like a trashcan without!

Love the gun metal BTW!

Dampers / shocks - thoughts wanted...

I am not a huge fan of the green/grey-ish colour of the World's dampers. Nor am I a huge fan of the white plastic accessories on those dampers. Yes I know they are period, correct, rare etc. But I am going to do this to please my eyes for when it is on display. So I will either change the damper body anodising to a different colour, plus replace all plastic bits to black (if possible?), or sell them and find alternatives. If I find alternatives it makes sense I stick to Associated if at all possible. So...

Which alternative high quality dampers will fit my World's with the A&L rear arms? Ideally all metal and not too much plastic stuff on them. Screw threads too please...

RC10 World 1994 - dimensions / facts / tech help please :)

(Still waiting for my car to arrive and wish to order some parts)

Could someone kindly let me know these details please...

1. The length of front and rear shocks in mm (taken from the centres of the pivot mounting holes).

2. What sort of Brushless motor and ESC would you recommend? Car will be run on large open expanses of park grass field - not perfectly cut grass. I do not want mega power as it may be too much for the car to take. Just something compact, plain looking, reliable, enough but not silly power. Or should I get a brushed motor?

3. What sort of motor pinion I would need for above? Not sure if the teeth specs changed over time?

4. Batteries - should I get NIMS or LIPO. I know little about this! Bear in mind I am not after ultimate speed or anything.

5. Should I stick with vintage 27MHz or get new stuff? I used to run Sanwa Dash R2 (In fact I still have it).

Thanks!! :)

Great build so far. Love the wheels!

For a Brushless system I would go with a Novak Ballistic set up and are sensored. They have the right color scheme to go with your color scheme too.
I would go with a lipo set-up as well. You will get some great run times and will be lighter than a nimh pack.

Edit: I should add, I am no expert with these but that is what I would do. I know others will chime in with much better ideas on electronics for this set-up.

The underside has some tiny marks which will be removed once it is re-anodised later.

TBG Mirage body. I'll probably remove the rear section behind the shock tower.

Chassis with the wheels just placed on without bearings. I am not using these wheels now,
but it shows what the tyres will look like on the car. I think it gives a realistic scale vibe, as the
treads look less toy like than spikes. They will look even better once they are mounted onto the
alloy wheels - the correct way round next time :D

Nice clean build Paul. I'm curious to see how it will look with the rear of the body gone.

Mee too. Could be a mistake... we'll see :D

I've not really started yet. All I've done is amass parts. I'll get it stipped down tomorrow so the fun can begin...

Thanks, hopefully. I have been inspired by some of the amazing builds on here. If it gets close to some I'll be happy enough.

I won't bore you with all the details but I have ordered a TON of brand new spares and a storage box to sort them into. I should now be able to keep this car going into the forseeable future.

Undertray...

Once the chassis has been rubbed down and re-anodised I want to keep it perfect. So I am thinking of either a TBG lexan undertray, or maybe sticking something under the chassis. Any ideas? It would have to be black or transparent. Perhaps a thick vinyl, or thin plastic? Ideas welcome...
