I still have at my parents house the Lego Technic automobile (mid-late 80s) with standard shift transmission, reclining seats and working 4 cylinder engine.

My cousin had the car with the standard trans and 4cylinder engine. It had a differential also. very cool.....

I also have a mass collection of Knex too
I tend to make small impromptu furniture or holders out of it.
in college it became a book holder where each opening was sized for each book and was a certain depth to make sure I could grab them all. It sat in my truck's toolbox.
It was a small coffee table at one point. I put a old window drape over it lol.
Right now, Its another small holder only this time, It holds a dvd player, game console, and a multi input box with a tv sitting on top of it.
making a working steering system with knex except for putting a motor directly on a wheel is an interesting feat.

That is a great link. I have been a member for over a year now. You can set it up too email you when a part becomes available that is not currently in stock.
