I haven't modernized my early blackfoot as it would take alot of work to get it to safely run a brushless setup on the old gear box.. There is one I have seen on Tamiya Club that got a slipper integrated to it.. No joke.. That was crazy cool.. fully adjustable and addressed the side plate issue in the early BF.. I'll look for the link and post it here..

The BF Extreme should take a brushless as I have seen many that have done it based on what I have seen..

Thanks for the comments guys. I am going to put a Reedy rtr brushless system in it for now. Sc500/3900kv. The tricky part will be getting my lipos to fit. I will definitely be replacing the shocks. Probably just shocks for now, but in the future this thing could really benefit from some taller towers. I will also be upgrading to bearings of coarse.

I have two original blackfoots and enough new parts to build three more. I hate the suspension on the original. I have never had any issues with the gearbox as I made some cheap braces for the diff halves before I ran it. I broke the shock mounting tab on the rear arms every time I ran it and I only used a 27t motor.

That is why mine will be ran on flat ground only...I have a 19 turn mod motor in mine and I never had trans problem...

Wouldn't a rear skid plate do the same thing as a brace ?????

You mean a brace for the gearbox? It does help a little, but not enough if you're putting some power thru it. I used a couple pieces of Delrin to make braces for mine.

It's a shame the rear arms are so fragile around the shock mount area. The Blackfoot is a blast to jump and run on a track.

The biggest problem I used to have with the original Blackfoot was the axles/shafts. If they weren't stripped they were popping out.

I got most of the paint off the body. The last spots are putting up quite a fight. Hopefully letting it sit overnight has softened it up enough to get it off by the time I get home later.

GPM makes some really nice options for this chassis, including larger shock towers so you can use full-size shocks. Looks on www.asiatees.com under "Wild Dagger".

Thanks for the heads-up. I will probably make my own shock towers, when/if I go that route. I really like the red anodized suspension parts though!

I got the body all stripped down. Spent all night last night doing "bodywork". The brake fluid wouldn't get the paint out of the body lines, so I had pick it all out, then sand them all clean. Talk about tedious..... the body had a few scrapes on the corners and the sides of the roof, so I sanded all of them out. The drip rails above the door were the worst, so I just sanded them off completely. The moulding around the windshield looked pretty bad, so I smoothed that out. Also smoothed out the funky mold lines around the rear window. I sanded the whole thing with 400, them finished it off with ultra-fine Scotchbrite. It turned out nice. Hopefully I can get it primed tomorrow.

That had to suck...But at least it is done...

A couple pics of where I'm at now. I broke the anchor points of the tailgate. I am just going to glue it all together.

Got the body primed. I think I am going to do a blue and white two tone paint job.

That should look pretty good.

Tamiya plastic is very brittle...What stuff are you going to do to the chassis ???

I'm not sure what I am going to do to the chassis. I will probably just start with basic mods for now, and see where it goes. At first I wanted to do everything, but then the initial excitement passed and now I am thinking i don't want to spend a ton of money on it. Will definitely get bearings and better shocks, and I am going to have to do something about the battery compartment to make my batteries fit.
