OK......I think this is where the problem lies. By the looks of things the gear box maybe an earlier version with a much narrower opening for the slipper shaft. I can't see too well due to the motor plate being attached but check to see if your RHS transmission case half has the wide opening like this....

And a close up of the area in question....
LRM Trans case close up.

If this is the problem then there's obviously no room for the long boss slipper back plate so you may need to find a later transmission case or widen the hole..... carefully!

Maybe one of the other forum members has had to do this and can offer some advice.

I rembered this problem discussed and found where.. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=24503&start=30.. it is DerbyDan's jrx2 project.. good read as well for an interesting set up for a runner.. I used this build as my inspiration for my own jrx2 build.. give it a look.. the post regarding the trans is near the bottom of this linked page.. it also confirms LosiXXkid's observation..

Very helpful Hondaman and LosiXXXkid, thanks. I did wonder if I would need to open up the hole in the gearbox. I'll have a goat it myself and see if I can do a reasonable job, otherwise I have to wait several weeks for a new case to arrive in the UK from the States - postage is very slow.

I'll post updates as the car comes together....

Glad you found my build thread inspirational/helpfull,

For opening up that hole in the gearbox casing I used a bodyshell reamer tool - did a perfect job! If you are using the normal XXX slipper plates - the 'boss' on the back is not big/long enough - so you need the black spacer to fit between the layshaft bearing & the slipper plate
