Thanks for the link, I'm gonna order some as I can use them on other cars I have those collars on.

Yeah, double check but in my experience the (southern california made) CRP/RCH/JG collars are M3 threaded. I'm sure that could vary though.

I was able to fabricate the front shock towers today. I used the MRP tower as a template. I needed to make it .750 longer. I double backed taped the tower to the FRP then cut it out.

After I cut one tower out on the router table, I then used it to cut another.

Here they are mounted up on the chassis

Nice! 8)

 Anyone else recognize this as landmark moment when Shodog made something? Kyosho parts getting mailed to SCR8P, and now this? This global climate change thing may be for real.

No kidding! Nice work on the shock tower fabrication, too. If the part you need doesn't exist--or costs too much--make your own! 8)

Hey, I'm not just an assembler, I make things to. Not too much progress tonight. I spent more time on my stereo trailer for a bike bicycle ride tomorrow. I was able to get the holes drilled in the radio box for the frame braces. They only give you a lame hand drawn piece of paper to locate the holes so I was keeping my fingers crossed when I popped the holes in.

nice project. Would the turnbuckles hit the tower under suspension travel? Seems very close fit

Thats why the towers are notched for steering rod clearence.don

Don is correct I accounted for the steering rods by notching out the towers. At full lock they just come to touch. Two ways I could go, change the steering rods to 4/40 or take another .010 off the inside.

Nice work. That front end looks tough.

Actually, my concern would be more regarding the shocks...is there adequate space there to install the coil-over springs & retainers? You may need longer mounting bolts...

Yes they need to be a bit longer. I need to drop by Mr.Metric and pick up some different sizes of Button head allen wrench screws. I kinda want to wait till the end and find out what sizes I'll need that way I only have to go once. In addition I'm waiting on some of the soft touch set screws to come in from Mcmaster carr.

Very interesting work. Mr Metric sounds like a useful store to have locally too.

I made a little bit of progress on my scorpion. I plan to send some bodies to Andy to paint and I wanted to trim out the vintage Mccallister California Gold body before it gets painted.

Image

Putting an Xacto knife to a 35 year old body was tough but someone had to do it.

Image

Trimming the front of the body around the CRP braces was challenging. It fits nicely but not as well as the stock body.

Image

Image

The main reason this project stalled out about 4 years ago were that the shocks rubbed the tires. I was able to try an idea out for a new shock mounting location and it worked way smoother and with no rubbing.

Image

I was able to try out the Tecnacraft wheels and tires

And mock up the rear suspension.
