Update 6/1/14
So I found a used GTB2 esc so brushless power it is!! I bought a Viper 7.5T motor (new) and an Outerwears cover for it but those don't come in til tomorrow. ...so while I'm waiting. ...I did this. Cheap covers for the shocks.

The last thing I need is some sort of "wheelie bar"..... maybe a 8" or 10" strip of thick plastic?

Funny, I was going to suggest the same type of skid plate as a wheelie bar

Yeah. I'm gonna see if my job has any small scrap pieces of the plastic I'm thinking of. At 8 to 10 inches it should be just flexible enough to allow a nice wheelie but not let it flip.
Knucklebuster: I will be in Florida next month to run this out by Clearwater..... you close by?

I'm in Tampa, across the bay. Will only take about 30-45 minutes to get out that way depending on traffic. Are you familiar with the area?

My DIY wheelie bar.... 3/16in. Hard plastic sheet cut to shape and (poorly) beveled around the leading edges. Holes countersunk. Original hardware used.

Holy smokes is been a long time. .....
Well, the trip to the beach in Florida was a success and the car preformed very well. ....didn't need the "wheelie bar" though. ... not enough torque i guess. .... but.....

Awesome picture!!!! I tried to get a shot like that but i just couldn't.
Maybe next time. She's been re-geared and i FINALLY made the switch to lipo. That wheelie bar i made might come in handy next time! !!

Wow.... just stumbled across my own build.... from 7yrs ago!!! Time flies.
The sand rail is no more.... but I still have the car. She undergone massive changes and there are still more planned.
Some of the biggest changes are an 8-Racing carbon fiber rear shock tower. I know of only 3 in the US and I own two of them. I changed the shocks to 12mm Kashima's with TiN shafts, JC collars and lower caps with Exotek aluminum spring cups. Lunsford titanium tie rods and hinge pins, Hot Racing rear aluminum T-Plate and finally a REAPER RC T4.2 aluminum chassis specifically for shorty lipos.....
I'm going to get a B6.2 body for it to match my B6.2 car that I intend to race soon. Then I'm going to change all the blue hardware over to black.
From sand to carpet.....
