probe the recever wires from the speed control and see if there is battery voltage .. the esc must not be putting out power the the recever

It does put out power.

When I hooked up my futuba 603FS receiver, it got power.

When I plug that battery pack in now. Even the ESC powers up regardless of the position of its power switch. It doesnt run the motor but it does run the servo.

That's how it should work, the battery will back feed into the esc to power up the low power side. Very odd that it doesn't work off the esc power, as it obviously is powering the esc thru the same connection. What happens when you swap the speed control and servo positions and try it without the battery pack?

I think I need to replace the connector on the esc that plugs into the receiver. It looks like one of the contacts gets pushed up when I try to plug it in. so power is only getting a one directional flow now
