Thanks for the reply mate . So the sc comes with a new version of the bb springs that are supposed to be more progressive? Are they calling them v2? Also one thing I have wondered and would be good to know before I prep my B44.2 for racing,can you explain what the main differences are between the original bb shocks and the V2 used on the 5 series of vehicles? I know the caps are different but unsure if the parts are interchangeable and can't tell from the manuals what the difference is on the bottom cap area.. I am keen to hear how your first pack went mate.. If you want me to start a thread with these questions just say and I'll delete it mate,thanks Rod..

The main difference between the bb shocks are: On the B4 series were ?? (can't remember size) SAE shafts, and the new B5 series are larger 3mm metric shafts.

if they are bigger, they gotta be 3.5mm or greater, as SAE is 1/8", bigger than 3mm.

AE says they are 3mm. I know they are bigger than the old SAE because I even tried using X-ring seals in my B4.2 and it pissed out all the oil!

that's a strange thing Rod. 1/8"=.125", 3mm=.118" Associated lists the shafts as 3mm, and the oring for the shock is sized at 1/8"/1/4" or 3mm/6mm ID/OD. the xrings shoulda worked for ya too.....

I checked the OD of the shafts last night and for sure new are 3mm and old are larger 1/8. Not 100% sure but maybe the chamber that hold the seals is deeper, and will not pinch on the seals to make a better seal. The FT drivers say, you can not use X-Rings on SC10/B4 series big bore shocks. I would assume this is why.

Anyway, big outdoor race this weekend in a city north of me. Looking forward, but have never been to that track so I have no idea how things will work. I will be taking my old SC10.2 to run one qually and the SC5M two, to compare lap times and such. Not the best situation to be doing this! Big race, new track, possible minor changing conditions, nerves and such come in to play. Should be ok though! Going up Friday after work for practice but weather is calling for rain all day! I guess my first qually will be my practice! Do I sound nervous to you????

yeah, could be the xrings are for 1/8" and being an X shape, have less material to provide a seal.

Is it a one day event? The first qualifier is never a good indication of lap times as the track is usually green. If they have a few open/control practice sessions before then it's different, you can at least get a feel for the track, grip levels and jump timing etc. If it's indoor it's not so bad but if it's outdoor....

How many entries are they expecting?

Three day event but I think the Friday practice will be rained out. Not bad for me as I have to work!

Anyway, I updated the Test section on the first page with my impression of my first run!

Good to read you had a good first shake down run mate and it sounds like a good package. I will have to save up some coin,doh. I plan on doing the nix10M with the wide nose aluminium chassis so after that I will be in super saving mode for another short course truck. Really enjoyed my old slightly modified sc10 and have missed it,kinda lucky I haven't had a chance to race since Xmas . It has given me a chance to catch up on some builds though whilst taking my mind off not having a sc truck

Not sure what part of Australia Ray Munday is from, but I use his set ups on my cars and they work great. Do you know Ray Munday? His SC10 set up rocks http://keilorrc.org.au/setups/2014_SC10_Ray_Munday_Keilor_Stampede.pdf. If this can help you with your SC10.

The local yokomo racer here travels and races against Ray. Local came third in the vic state titles warm up race. I'm just as fast as local racer with 10M.

I queried another AE racer in the scene about the big bores and ride height which he said the AE big bores require more maintenance. Most of the AE guys last year I think for one of the titles went back to the smaller shocks.

I'm surprised you use Rays set ups unless your track is dry and dusty. Australin tracks are less then ideal....

Edit: looking at your track looks similar to whats here. Dusty low med grip when grooved.
