Version 4 transmission case, hot off the "press."


Here's version 1 of the bulkhead. Basically I made features to bolt into the chassis sides, on the outside, added tabs for the caster links, which I moved to the rear of the hubs, and then I added a mounting surface for the bulkhead. After I had those 3 features, I just connected them with simple features, making sure they cleared the transmission etc. I haven't added mounting between the bulkhead and trans case yet, but I already know where they're going. The two main tricks here are mounting the bulkhead to the outside of the pan, and simply moving the camber links to the rear of the hubs. Once I figured those two details out, the rest of its cake.















I also took a shock tower and quickly hacked it up to get an idea of how it will be.

So it looks like this is going to work. I just need to add bulkhead mounting to the trans case, design a tower, and a few other odds and ends. I'm headed out of the country for about a week and a half, so I probably won't make any progress on this for a couple weeks. But now I know for sure it can be done.

Can you get a 1/4 inch nut driver and corresponding nut in there to adjust the slipper? Looks awfully close.

How does the bulkhead attach to the tranny?

Version 1 doesn't because I was more concerned about getting the chassis mounts, camber link mounts, and bulkhead mounting surface in the right places. And I was running out of time Friday afternoon. The next version will bolt to the top of the trans case, and I'll add corresponding bosses to the top of the trans case. Got it all figured out, just need to find time to model it up.
I also need to design a motor plate, but that will be easy. I'll have those waterjetted when the time comes.

Great Job Brian! That is exactly how I pictured it would look. Nice thought on bringing the tabs in from outside of the tub.

Man do I wish I had the skills and equipment to do this kind of stuff. I need to buy a 3d printer and learn how to make things like this.

What motor plate will you use?? The Yokomo yz2 could be a good option unless you'll machine your own

Oh yeah. I like this! Simply amazing the stuff you guys come up with.

I will most likely make custom motor plates. It would be a simple enough part to just have a bunch of them water-jetted.

Following, will def be buying this conversion when you.post them for sale. Just getting back into the hobby after atleast a decade away from it. Just built a re re worlds car, love it. I don't like the look of the new kits.
