8mil thick should provide good protection!

Those will not work well. I tried different brands but they are too soft and will not last very long. I haven't seen AE protector but at least Mattox ones are quite hard and stick well. 18mil was not too thick at all and even that wore through after let's say 20 runs on indoor track. I suppose outdoor tracks are even harder.

Following this post has caused me to take a close look at the chassis tubs of my cars. On at lease one, not only has it become scratched, polished, etc., but the aluminum is actually worn thin back near the motor. At this rate, it will certainly fail soon if I don't take some kind of action. The soil here in the south is very sandy and abrasive. A $10 chassis protector seems like cheap insurance. I reckon Roger and the other guys at AE never anticipated that their cars would still be running 30+ years in the future.
