So, I haven’t run either car yet (or disassembled for CLA), and I have been reluctant to do so since they have never been run.
But today I finally came across a beat-up RC10 I could turn into a runner. It was fairly cheap, and fairly banged up too. I only just got my hands on it a couple of hours ago, so I’ve only performed a quick inspection.
It seems to be a stock and mostly original A stamp Cadillac (?).
Here’s how it came:
What I’ve noticed so far:
1) At first glance the body looks very roughed up, but it’s actually in fairly good shape (considering...) except for the paint, which has flaked off all over. Stripping it completely may not be that hard from the looks of it. The other, unpainted body has been all cut-up for air vents. A shame.
2) The shocks are completely dry. There’s some oily residue on the tires which may or may not come from the shocks. Hopefully the seals are not dry or broken. Cosmetically the shocks look quite good, and I might consider passing them over to my CE car which has the black capped ones which I don’t fancy so much.
3) The pan is all scraped up as expected, and unfortunately someone in the past decided to drill a couple of holes for the servo mounts just barely overlapping the previous ones.
4) The steering has a world of play, starting at the hubs which likely have worn out bushings. The A arm also has a lot of play at the chassis mount. The A arms are pretty chewed-up at front too. My LHS has spare A arms, but I wonder if they are the newer style and will mount on this car.
5) I hooked a battery up to it and it seems to work, but one wheel wants to turn faster then the other. The diff did also feel quite stiff (but that would have had the opposite effect on the wheels spinning). I’m not familiar with this 6 gear transmission.
6) electronics all seem to work. The transmitter has a Frankenstein battery adaptation on it and the aerial is not original. Battery cap is also missing. Will be putting this one aside.
7) The tires on the car look to have been barely used. They are mounted on newer style, one piece rims. I’m quiet hopeful for these. They’re exactly what I was looking for; a set of wheels I could use and avoid rolling the originals which came with my other two cars. I’m not sure how much of a match these wheels are for this car though; the rims are barely clearing the rear hub carriers. The original rims and tires were also included, which is fortunate.
8 ) The motor is a Trinity Green Machine and the ESC is a Futaba MC210CB.
I’m quite happy with this acquisition. I finally have a project car. Here are some more pics:
