Yeah, I’m really happy to have it compete now. I had long lost many of the steering swivel plates, the seat hinge plate, several yellow parts, most of the black slope parts that make up the top of the seat and a few others. Well,
I came across the box with 50% of the parts on the local auction site and took a chance. Amazingly, all my missing parts where in the box.
I also really wanted an old LEGO box to show how legos used to come. The only other surviving box I have is a motor gear reduction kit which goes we’re nicely with this one.
Now I have to see if I still have all the pieces to 8860 Car Chassis!
haha same here, 852 was my first Technics.

Started accumulating bits along the years... should have enough to build a gokart by now. :P

Had forgotten the "display box" held the manual folded up in the box lid.

Are you missing the exhaust rubber tubes & the front number sticker?

I forgot to put the hoses on! Thanks for pointing that out. I have a few, maybe not the original ones from this set, but I have some.
The sticker I don’t have, and when I got this box the other day I searched it inside out to see if the sticker might still be lying around in some crease or under some lid. But, alas, no sticker.

There, put the hoses on (and the two red cylinders). Regards.

854 was my first Technics/Expert too! I still have it, worn but complete. Between my son and I, we now have way too many Lego sets. They're almost as addictive as vintage RC! :D

So, I haven’t run either car yet (or disassembled for CLA), and I have been reluctant to do so since they have never been run.

But today I finally came across a beat-up RC10 I could turn into a runner. It was fairly cheap, and fairly banged up too. I only just got my hands on it a couple of hours ago, so I’ve only performed a quick inspection.

It seems to be a stock and mostly original A stamp Cadillac (?).

Here’s how it came:

What I’ve noticed so far:

1) At first glance the body looks very roughed up, but it’s actually in fairly good shape (considering...) except for the paint, which has flaked off all over. Stripping it completely may not be that hard from the looks of it. The other, unpainted body has been all cut-up for air vents. A shame.
2) The shocks are completely dry. There’s some oily residue on the tires which may or may not come from the shocks. Hopefully the seals are not dry or broken. Cosmetically the shocks look quite good, and I might consider passing them over to my CE car which has the black capped ones which I don’t fancy so much.
3) The pan is all scraped up as expected, and unfortunately someone in the past decided to drill a couple of holes for the servo mounts just barely overlapping the previous ones.
4) The steering has a world of play, starting at the hubs which likely have worn out bushings. The A arm also has a lot of play at the chassis mount. The A arms are pretty chewed-up at front too. My LHS has spare A arms, but I wonder if they are the newer style and will mount on this car.
5) I hooked a battery up to it and it seems to work, but one wheel wants to turn faster then the other. The diff did also feel quite stiff (but that would have had the opposite effect on the wheels spinning). I’m not familiar with this 6 gear transmission.
6) electronics all seem to work. The transmitter has a Frankenstein battery adaptation on it and the aerial is not original. Battery cap is also missing. Will be putting this one aside.
7) The tires on the car look to have been barely used. They are mounted on newer style, one piece rims. I’m quiet hopeful for these. They’re exactly what I was looking for; a set of wheels I could use and avoid rolling the originals which came with my other two cars. I’m not sure how much of a match these wheels are for this car though; the rims are barely clearing the rear hub carriers. The original rims and tires were also included, which is fortunate.
8 ) The motor is a Trinity Green Machine and the ESC is a Futaba MC210CB.

I’m quite happy with this acquisition. I finally have a project car. Here are some more pics:

What!? When your battery gets swiped once you get a new one. When it happens twice you take measures!
Apparently he was still figuring out how to get a clamp on the car. Only got as far as getting rid of the battery holder.

That car should make a perfectly suitable runner.
The re-released RC10 parts will fit the vintage cars - all critical dimensions are the same. The only exception that comes to mind are the rear arm inner hinge pins - the re-re ones are too short to fit the vintage arms. This is true for both the "classic" and the "worlds" car.
I have a new set of front arms on one of my vintage cars so I know they will fit.

852 is a crap model for playability
The rack&pinion relies solely on clutchpower to hold it together
and the transmission is really only 1WD

Ok ok, so it's from Lego's first generation of Technics.

But how long did we have to wait for a decent Lego RC... 35yrs until 9398!! 8)

I should go build an 852 just to show the kids :P
