1/1 scale racing. people build RC cars from local junkyard cars and run them through hell races and crash derbies.
Batteryless cars, power is transmitted to them from the controller.
Swamp car races

I have toyed with this idea. I love watching the swamp buggy races. I am stuck on the tires. If you had the patience, you could take a HUGE o-ring and cut treads in it.

The next big thing is an onboard camera and virtual reality goggles; so you can experience driving from Mr. Wild Willy's seat
swamp car races, yeah, but where you find the track???
I wish hovercrafts would finally become good enough for racing though: 1 series on land, the next on the water

That would take some doing. But it could be done.

I see fake ponds alot of places, line them up or strtch one out and you got a course. Throw in mud and other swap like grass.

I have a cab cam in my shell on the 1/5, and I have seen goggles it would transmit to, so that is a possibility, the film from the cam is awesome.

Does the camera record AND transmit? I though the movie was recorded on the camera and you 'd have to copy it over later.
You'd need a high update rate and instant transmission; any delay would make it impossible to drive from the camera.

Camera transmits to a separate receiver, in this case plugged into a cam corder, but you can buy relatively cheap toy cars that have on board cameras and broadcast in real time to the handset in colour with sound. I had a couple of ones that involved lazers and could disable each other. My present one is a Ferrari F1 and the cam is in the driveres helmet, with a colour screen on handset.

The cams themselves are around $40 I adapted a 12v nimh to sit on the receiver, so the guy with camcorder is not tied to a lesiure battery.

At an HPI challenge event several years ago, my friend had a camera system mounted on his RC car. He chased cars around the track and had some awesome footage of racing action. The biggest danger, Rollovers! Camera unit was mounted on top of the car.
RCCA had an article on a b/w camera unit somone mounted inside an RC and they drove it around their house. Trouble was, they had it on the LH side of the car. kept smashing the R side due to misjudging the turns etc. They also used it to catch a rodent who was getting into their bagels!
Could be of interest.

must be a bit like driving drunk; tunnel view. I bet if you had virtual ggogles you 'd stupidly be turning your head without getting a view of what's waiting behind the next turn

You just defined me on every video game I ever played
That is the main reason I went to PC gaming. It is harder to jump up and down with a keyboard in one hand and a mouse in the other.
