The 6 gear can handle a mild brushless, 17.5 or 13.5 no problem. The idlers are the first to go.

The mid motor will be nice, probably ba little overkill but no worries.

Use a newer 2.4g radio and lipo shorty pack. It's world's better than the old stuff. Just be vigilant with lipo handling.

You’re probably right that the mid motor is overkill but it just seemed like the natural evolution since all the newer cars are set up that way. Also, I just thought it looked cool.
During my limited research, I got varying opinions on six gear and brushless motors. Some said it would be fine others said it would break. In the end it just made sense to go with the stealth.
I did order a new 2.4g radio. My old Futaba magnum jr is a relic now. I got the Flysky Noble NB4. Again, overkill but it looks really cool.
I will also be cautious with the LiPo battery. That’s another thing I learned while researching.

Transmission installed. I opted for the carbon fiber shock tower. J concepts steering bell crank and tires. I’m waiting for the battery cups from shapeways which will be delivered this week. Once they come in I’ll install the rest of the electronics.

I got the battery cups from shapeways yesterday and started putting everything together. When I was researching what electronics to use it was pretty overwhelming. In the end, I thought it would be cool to keep it in the family and go with all Reedy electronics.
The only problem now is setting everything up. I’m not sure what to do first: set up the radio and receiver or set up the esc. I watched some videos on YouTube but it’s not clear what to do next. I’ve had enough for tonight. I’ll do more research tomorrow.

Bind the receiver 1st, then you can calibrate the esc to the transmitter...make sure your throttle endpoints are maxed out before u set the esc up and your servo reversing is in the "normal" position. Then set the steering endpoints....pretty basic stuff...once u get it down it all takes about 5 mins or less...good luck. Nice build...
I wasn't too keen on that mid motor in that when u 1st mentioned it but I dig it now
I am sure u do, but i cant see a sensor wire in the pic..
do u have one on there?

Thanks! Yes, I have the wire from the motor connected to the esc. I watched a video on how to bind the receiver but I couldn’t get the red light to blink on it. I wasn’t sure if it was getting power. I have the steering servo in channel 1 and the esc in channel 2. I don’t think there is another wire to connect to the receiver for power, is there? I’ll try again tonight.

Haven’t had much time to myself lately but I figured out why the receiver wouldn’t power up. It’s because I had it plugged in backwards. I got it powered up and set the steering endpoints. I set up the throttle and break endpoints but I couldn’t get it to go in reverse. I’ll have to try again when I have a little more time on my hands but I have another problem: I can’t get my charger to charge the battery.
I ordered the battery and charger from the same place. They assured me it would work if I had the correct cable to connect the battery. The battery is a Reedy Wolfpack 2s shorty 7.6v LiPo. The charger is a Venom sport balance charger. The cable is Reedy ASC27233. I believe I have them connected correctly. When I plug everything, the charger just keeps blinking green and never goes to solid red to indicate charging.
Now, the charger has the balance plugs on the side. My cable has the three prong plug with a clasp. The charger has a three prong port but no room for the clasp to fit. I sent pictures of this to the vendor I bought it from. They assured me if I cut off the clasp and plugged it in it should work. Instead, I decided to cut a little notch in the charger so it will fit. Still no dice. I contacted the vendor and they don’t know why it didn’t work. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have the correct charger?

3 small black wires.....at the end of the cable by the battery side one should be going to the positive terminal too....its not....looks like its bent back the other way...if u solder that wire to the positive it should work. u can make a short piece to temporarily see if it fixes it first

Thanks that worked! The place I bought these from told me to plug the small red wire into the small hole on the battery and disregard the small black wire. After taking a closer look at the cable, I realized there is a small hole on the red lead to plug in the small red wire. Then I plugged the small black wire into the battery and It worked. Now I just have to figure out reverse on the esc. One last question, at how many amps should I charge this battery? This charger can charge up to three amps. Also, how long does it typically take to charge?

charge it a the highest that charger will go. if its 3 amps it will take awhile....prolly 45 mins or so. I charge those at 12 to 20 amps with a more powerful charger. some guys at my track charge at 40amps! crazy

Thanks for the info. I don’t mind waiting 45min for it to charge (mainly because that charger was cheap). I’ll charge it up tonight and try to get reverse working.
Also, what does the wire connecting the esc to the motor do?
