I saw just one ad on ebay for a Rocky - actually it's for a pair of Rockys - and the seller is asking $1089. Is there something quite so special about this model? It looks to me you can buy a new kit (of equivalent quality???) for $300-$500 or so. Thanks for any time spent replying. I'd love to know more about what I have. In fact, this one was a gift so I didn't pick it out myself.

Thanks for all this! To be sure, I'm not hoping to retire should I find a buyer! Just curious to learn about it. This one has been sitting in a box in the basement for 40 years. I enjoyed building it then probably only ran it outside a half dozen times at most, including last weekend to see if it still worked! Mostly, I don't think I had the patience for recharging times!

Yes, that was the seller in Japan that I referenced earlier.

Regarding recharging: today's batteries have so much more capacity than they did in 1986. You can get NiMH packs the same sub c format that are 5000mAh, vs 1200/1400 back in the day. And chargers are a lot smarter. I've found I've gotten a little bored of running around my driveway before I ran out of battery.

I just found out my rare Rocky is actually just a "basher". I don't think I'll be digging very deep to skip the line!
