Montclair, Pegasus Hobbies.
For a new Slash for the boy, one has to go. I have 2 4wd cars, and I havent raced the ZX5 lately. Love it, but my XX4 is my favorite.

A few guys were running them last Saturday at the track, no performance improvement for our track conditions. As a matter of fact, the top 5 trucks were pretty much box stock, all the "modified" trucks were performing very poorly.
I will be running the "modified" class this saturday (Big Bore shocks, Mamba brushless system)....I plan on dominating.

Does anyone know if you can you run a Lipo with a stock Slash with the stock Radio?

You can, but there is no low voltage cut off. If you are bashing, best to change to a speedo that has a cutoff, if you are racing, no issues, I only use around 1300 mah per 6 minute run. It seems the aftermarket votage watch systems dont work with the stock XL5 speedo either.

You can run a lipo. I would suggest a cutoff for the lipo-- more to protect the battery than your ESC. You run the risk of dumping your lipos without one if you like to run them flat.
My lipos have a built-in low voltage cut-off, so I run them in everything I own-- vintage thru modern modified. Also I usually race the lipos in the Slash-- typically I run 2 5-minute qualifiers (4500mah) and then charge for the 5-minute main. Rarely do I put more than 2400mah after the 10 minutes.
Oops- beat to it!! Nice JK!
I didn't know there was compatibility issues with the Slash ESC, but I don't need the cutoff. There are plenty of folks running lipos at the local track with no problems--- but they don't run the packs down either.

Well, it wasnt total domination
I was outqualified by Greg Hodapp, 5 seconds ahead of me. I was running the Mamba in the first qualifier, pulled it out (uncontrolable) and dropped a stock 27T motor in there and was flying....I ended up 2nd in the main also, Greg smacked me down there too....
I will get a fresh 27T, and maybe a mild 19T for the big Traxxas race next weekend. You just cant ove-rmotor these things, the tires just wont grip enough. Funny enough, with the 27T motor, I was running lap times to put me in the top 3 in either stock buggy or stock truck. I am using stock Slash tires too, I wonder what it would do with sticky tires on there????

Okay, so the race is over and done with, and I feel quite happy with how I finished. I ended up running in 2 classes, expert and open modified. Main rules in expert were any electronics, Traxxas only shocks, Traxxas or Proline tires, everything else stock. Open modified was just length and width (and it must be a Slash), no bigger than 3S lipo or 8 cell pack.
I qualified 7th in the A main for Expert, finished 4th (with a $75 payout I may add!!).
I qualified 5th in the A main for Open Mod, finished 6th (just out of the payout). I was in a 4 car pack all fighting for 2nd to 5th when another competitor jumped the track and we had a head on collision at full speed. Put me back to 8th, and I fought back to 6th. For the mains, I didnt have enough time to swap out tires, I ran back to back, just swapped out battery and transponder, then tossed it back onto the track. So I ran Open Mod with box stock tires, where most everyone else was using Holeshots or Bowties. If I had time, I had a set of J Concepts Goosebumps for the rear, and Losi Directional fronts that I used in qualifying. Using these tires, I was pulling wheelies off most the jumps and had NO traction issues. The stock tires worked good, but those were better...
Well, here are some pics....
