Thanks for the info on the 480 Gold - I never knew that's why they were numbered as such. I remember back in the day when Tower Hobbies was having a closeout on...I think it was the SPA 240? Anyway, we cranked the timing way up on those bad boys. We could afford to shorten their lifespan for the sake of more speed. I look forward to seeing how impressive (or docile) the 480 Gold is.
I'm casually looking for an Yokomo 870, but it's not a big deal unless I find a great deal. My next hopeful project is actually a JR-X2, next time I see one in good condition at a decent price.
And finally - Aaron - that's a VERY kind offer! In the meantime, I purchased a packet of Kyosho kingpins off Ebay, so I no longer need any.

Re: Optima Mid
The Optima Mid came standard with a Le Mans 240 St. Around a 19t. The Turbo Mid came with no motor.
The 480 Gold is a 25t quad as mentioned.
As for pace the 240 St would eat the Gold but is not a good quality motor like the Gold.
No bearings , closed end bell and a plastic end bell..
Dont expect much from the Gold as it was not a fast motor ( back in its day it was but that was on 1200 mah batteries)
Magnets will be weak due to age which wont help.
Be carefull not to tighten the motor screws to tight as the alloy end plate strips easy..
Cheers.
