I don't think the 2wd version was ever released officially, more like a 4wd car without the front diff and belt. But I've been wrong many times in the past, so I might be again...

Anyway, this thread should at least also include an ACE, here's mine:

That's a stunning looking car. It may be one of the only ones left on the planet in that condition. I'd love to have one in any shape. Way cool! 8)

Thanks for the tip on the 2WD. I can't say for sure either if that's the case but I got this one basically NIB (partially assembled) and it didn't have any 4WD parts with it. I'll have to go back and check the manual to see if there were alternate instructions for each drive train.

Wow, that Ace is amazing! Was very excited when that was originally released, as it was very advanced compared to the Maxima. The potential was there, but I didn't have much luck with mine. Was pretty unforgiving to drive, but perhaps I didn't set mine up properly.

Yours looks awesome!!

The only question I have is why there is apparently a wall of bricks molded into the windshield.

That's a very clean Ace..... I'm not a fan of them, but that one is very nice.

As for the 2wd Mini Mustang, there was different sections in the instruction manual for 2wd and 4wd. There was also some different parts, some front axles without drive cups, as well as a short belt. There was also a belt roller that was included as part of the normal parts sprues. So don't think that it was an "I wonder if" type thing.... the 2wd version was planned, just like the 2wd Schumacher Cat of a similar era.

The ACE may not have been a ground breaking design for the time and I'm sure the rear motored design helped thin it's popularity at the track when everyone else was going 'mid motor' back then. Still, it's a very nice looking buggy of the day and as they say 'one mans trash is another mans treasure'. You'll find plenty that love it and just as many that don't.

Aw man - talk about a serious case of sellers remorse. I sold my Scalpel bodied Mustang last week to a fellow collector here in Australia, Dallas (schuey). Damn it - I really miss it .

Just like that old saying goes - "you don't know what you have till its gone". From the minute I started packing the car up I was regretting it. I even told him about it before I sent it and we started chatting about the cars and how much they can start to mean to their owners. My Mustang really actually started to mean alot to me because it was my first "company" supported drive back in the day. I just did not realise how much I "needed" to have it (especially after driving it again) as part of my collection. I sent it off begrudgingly.

After receiving it and falling in love with it too, he rang me straight away and said that he understood why I was so attached to it. Dallas is such a great guy that he agreed that once I find something he likes in my collection, he would l let me swap it back. So, for the moment Dallas has my baby.

Its great when like minded people that are involved in the hobby actually look after eachother. So - this post is a BIG thanks to Dallas - and a promise that I will find something very special for him to get my baby mustang back.

Sorry for dribbling on - just thought I would share a story of guys looking after eachother in the hobby.

Cheers

Darryn

Nice Story Darryn.

I Very rarely sell a vintage item. In the past 7yrs i sold my Top Force Evo, Top Force NB, and that's all.

I always regret it so much afterwards . I'm not into vintage to make money and never will be. I buy what i always wanted or wondered what will be good. A very nice guy that Dallas is. Wish he comes to our meet one day.

The PB Mini Mustang was a awesome weapon at our large 8th scale track at the time they were in a class above everything else & I wanted to beat them so much without jumping on to the PB boat like 99% of others did so i was the only Mid trying to stick to them. I really tried so hard and came so close in the 87 titles. I did have a little help from the Kyosho importer in Australia but was very little. Funny they offered me a better deal after that but i quit racing for 10 yrs after that.

So i have a PB in my collection just because I hated them so much. LOL. To me they are so under rated and i really don't know why.

Im Glad Jason ( Scr8p ) likes Kyosho's as they are awesome.

Speaking of Kyosho and Mid's i pick up another runner later today. A LWB Optima Mid Custom. Will post pics soon.

Cheers
