but I usually pretend to be occupied by something else as to avoid any eye contact.

You nailed there! thats actually what i do....but those people spotting us can see we are faking it....its humiliating!

Well, since we've already wandered off-topic...

I guess I come at this from a different angle. If I'm running a buggy around the front yard or on the driveway where all the neighbors can see or if I'm running a touring car on the church parking lot that's adjacent to a busy city street, a part of me is hoping someone will stop and strike up a conversation. I really want to promote the hobby as much as possible and hopefully to develop a local community of RC enthusiasts.

On a few occasions, I've had neighbors stop by when I've been running on the back yard track. They always seem interested but so far not interested enough to take up the hobby themselves. Maybe someday.

It's easy to see from the countless youtube videos that many (or most) who live in developed areas in the world have had some experience with RC's - especially if they have kids. There's no reason to hide or be embarrassed; everyone knows that driving an RC car is about having fun.

Perhaps every possession we have that's not essential for life can be labeled a "toy". Typically, it's a toy when we're a kid and a hobby when we move into adulthood. I tend to think of my Mustang GT, vintage motorcycle collect and RC's in the same way; they are simply recreational vehicles and nothing to be ashamed of.

I'm not embarrassed at all but there's always this...

"Can I drive it?"

:(

Exactly right.... usually an 8-year old boy, snotty nose and sticky fingers, who comes up and says "Can I have a go?"....

Often with a parent in tow, who gives you the "come on, it's only a toy, give the kid a go, what's wrong with you?" look.....

But then, I'm not a fan of people...

The originals are all warped from spring tension and soft as noodles not to mention age rotted plastic . Below shows the warpage !

What material are you printing with? The parts look great.

Carbon fibre nylon , way stiffer than stock and you can virtually bend them double before they snap , the ball joint fittings are particularly suited to FDM 3d printing , I did beef them up very slightly and printed with 9 walls so solid plastic . I'm now looking at starting a Shapeways store as I have a fair few bits and now have my Fusion 360 account set as a start up so I can sell stuff legitimately :D

There's loads more but I need to tweak the designs , a lot were slightly modified for FDM home printing so need to be returned to a more original shape that's possible on their printers at shapeways .

Just recently I got a roll of Polymaker Polymax PC polycarbonate ... Man is it strong ! I've been working on some suspension arms for a project I'm working on and I cocked up leaving a feature out so I made another one to replace it , this evening I replaced it and was just about to throw it away when I decided to see how strong it was ? If I made this in ABS I'd easily break it by hand , if it were carbon fibre nylon I could bend it double , I could do neither  I could flex it a bit but not much and I couldn't snap it by hand :D

1300GT has very kindly sent me some Tag Pro10 suspension components to copy and add to my Shapeways Shop (Dadio Designs), this is the first tester lower arm off the printer , very happy with the geometry :D I just need to give a little more clearance for the pivot balls as they are just a touch too tight .
The first shots are with an original arm to compare in front and behind , printed one in white .
